Climate Control Buttons Responding Slowly
Hi all,
Sorry if I posted in the wrong section. Mods, please move if so.
There is something wrong with the climate control buttons in my '13 6MT coupe. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before I call the dealership. After driving for a while, the climate control buttons will randomly become laggy. Every button, from driver/dual temperature control dials to fan speed to vent mode, will respond in slow motion, taking up to 30 seconds to register the change. The problem is isolated to the climate control button row. The radio controls are unaffected. The problem is intermittent. I can't reproduce it. It just happens randomly after a bit of driving, and it returns to normal if the car is turned off and back on or if the system is rebooted.
I entered the self diagnostic menu immediately after the controls became laggy. All module connection lines are green and there are no errors in the log. I'm thinking it's a memory leak in the latest '13 software since the problem magically disappears when the system is rebooted (after leaving diagnostic mode) or when the car is restarted. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Well, I guess no one else has experienced this issue. But I'll post a follow-up to help anyone else who might have this problem in the future.
So I brought my car to the dealer and they ran some diagnostics. There were no error codes and I have the latest software and all the right part numbers. As far as they could tell, everything was normal. I was told they reinstalled the latest software and they submitted a notice to the Infiniti tech line to make them aware of the issue. Hopefully reinstalling the software did the trick though. We'll see... I'll try to take a quick video if and when it happens again. Weird issue, but hopefully it's resolved.

Reloading the software did not work. The problem came back the other day. When I pressed the buttons, I heard the HVAC system react immediately as it should, so I don't think there is a problem with the HVAC. The delay was in updating the navi display and the button backlights on the head unit.
The service rep told me there is a processor module in the dashboard that handles the commands from the head unit. Maybe that unit is faulty. Or maybe the head unit needs to be replaced. Infiniti has no information on how to proceed because they've never seen this before. Any ideas before I let them tear my car apart? Thanks.

I'm still waiting to hear from my service rep. Last we spoke, he said they still have not received word from Infiniti, but that they are aware of the issue in my car and they are investigating. He'll let me know once they find out how to proceed. Have you told your dealership about it? If not, you should definitely let them know so Infiniti can see that the issue exists in more than one car.
How often does the problem occur in your car? I've never seen it happen on short trips. It seems like I have to drive 20-30 miles before it *might* do it.

Yeah, I'm starting to doubt that the issue is with the software. I think the problem would be more widespread with all the '12 and '13 owners out there who should have the latest software/map versions. But that's why I asked ASG37S about how many miles are put on before the issue occurs. I drive 100+ miles everyday. Maybe it only happens on long trips because of software memory leaks that build up over time. Just trying to figure this out while I wait to hear back from Infiniti.

Well, if your '08 does the same thing, then I guess that rules out the new software as the source of the problem (unless you've updated to it). The reason I thought the new software was the culprit is because I had an '11 G37x coupe that never did it once. Friends and family have '11 G37x sedans without any issues either. I couldn't think of anything else that's different between the '11 and '13 cars besides the software/map change.
Yes, the system will eventually engage. I agree, it's a minor issue, unless something else fails as a result of it, but it's still an issue. It seems like my car does this every other day, sometimes less often, but sometimes more. So even though it's minor, it is still very annoying, especially because my car has done this since day 1.

It's been behaving lately, but yesterday it did it within 10 minutes of starting my commute. I have yet to hear back from Infiniti, so I'll call them later today about it.

Still no answer from Infiniti. I think they gave up on me. Also, unless it was just my imagination, the last time it happened I could've sworn the car started blowing colder air from the vents even though the heat was on. I restarted the computer by entering then leaving diagnostic mode, and the air felt warmer again once it turned back on.

Well, I'm not happy with the way it is. I plan to go to the dealership and request that they replace the radio/HVAC faceplate. If the problem persists, then that processing module is next. I'll start with the easy stuff, then if necessary, let them dig deeper into the dashboard. Hopefully, the issue is just in the faceplate controls.
