iPod most compatible with 2008

Hello,

I'm going to be getting an iPod to be dedicated for full time music use in the car (2008). I know that later generation iPod/iPhones with USB specd power won't charge without an adapter, so I would like confirmation on which generation iPod touch would be the best to buy. I believe second generation?

Thanks

Was looking into this myself and found the following..

Compatible Devices:
All Apple devices that support charging via a FireWire® connection are compatible with the Infiniti Interface System for iPod®.
These include:
• iPod® Classic – 1st through 6th generation
• iPod® Mini – 1st through 2nd generation
• iPod® Nano – 1st through 3rd generation
• iPod® Touch – 1st generation
• iPhone® - 1st generation

NOTE: Refer to the vehicle Owner’s Manual for further Infiniti Interface System Information.

Non-compatible devices (as of 12/8/2008):
• iPhone® 3G
• iPod® Nano (4th generation)
• iPod® Touch (2nd generation)
