Just curious. On my 2008 G35, the nav system was on the hard drive and the update had to be done by a combination of a key that was purchased from the nav manufacturer and then the update input by the dealer. I now have a 2012 G37XS with nav. Is the process the same? (not that I'm ready to update the system yet).

No, 2010+ navis are updated with a DVD. You purchase the DVD from navigation.com and update it yourself. This is of course half speculation because there hasnt been a map update released yet for any 2010+ vehicle.
