Looks like they hacked into the wiring harness for some reason. They could have at least wrapped it back up with some black electrical tape. That looks like a hack job to me...
Either that, or you have a rodent problem!

K just got back from the dealer... what a HASSLE.
turns out it was a rodent problem.
dealer dude was actually pretty nice about it (look for Tom at Infiniti Tustin) even though it wasnt covered by warranty. had to file an insurance claim... the estimate: $1958.79 (roughly a grand for labor). gunna lose her for about a week, she was only 3 months old!

^+1 rick is such a ****. look for tom.
apparently its quite a common problem. rats get under there and chew the **** out of everything. they can live in the tubing and stuff... but i dont understand how they can thrive in the immense heat LOLi didnt believe it at first, but another service manager (who didnt hear our convo) walked in and interrupter "tom, did you see what happened to my guy's (i guess it her her customer/client) infiniti? 3 baby rats!"
i live in irvine, and almost always park my car in the garage O.O
i got some mousetraps and bait (courtesy of a closing ace hardware in the area)
to see if my garage is the culprit
$808 for the parts this is what my work order says
"Engine wire harness rodent damaged. Part # 204011 1NG1A ESTIMATE TO REPLACE HARNESS". the rest goes to labor... LOL. looks like an easy job though
i just discovered the problem while reinstalling your wires. i thought it was the dealership's fault because i coincidentally got an amp replaced today (amp replacement was free- underwarranty
)
not covered by warranty because its your fault, for parking it in a bad area i guess. insurance is covering it, im pretty sure.
however, i did noticed something... the positives to BB's wires i posted in my review https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...ll-review.html (scroll down) were not from the placebo effect, because i had the chance to drive my car again without the wires. though, i dont seem a huge change in the throttle response, im planning to attach the throttlebody grounding wires to the intake tubing hex-screw versus the measly stainless streel nut.. maybe itll have a greater effect.
also, i called Tom after leaving my G at the dealership to tell him not to throw away my grounding wires (too lazy to take them off for the 3rd time) and he was chill about it. he knew exactly what i was talking about and said dont worry, will put it back for you if we remove them. Him and the girl service manager's actually know alot about what they were talking about. even though the lady mistaken my plastidipped grille for powdercoat. compliment i guess

A rat got under your hood and chewed through that wire wrap??? Where the heck do you live man? And what cost $2K? Certainly not wrapping that wire back up with tape. Do you mean your amp cutting out issue cost $2K? Why's it not covered by warranty? I'm confused, help me out...

the reason why i didnt jsut electrical taped it myself is because i wanted them to look through the engine too, for those damned rats. what the hell, its most likely covered.
hey RYs06mt, you go to uci!?

OK, the price makes a bit more sense now if they are replacing the harness. Are you sure that the actual wires in the harness are damaged? In the photo it looks like the wrap is chewed off but the wires seem to be intact. If the amplifier issue is unrelated and it's been taken care of, have you had any other issues to indicate that the actual wires are damaged? If not, I'd wrap that bitch up with some electrical tape and keep on cruising. There's no rats living permanently in your engine bay, they'd roast from the heat.

now that i think about it, the the little critters have probably been there in the past. i remember that the first time i removed the engine cover, i noticed that foamy parts on the underside was falling apart (looks like someone half tore it and left it hanging there); another section was completely missing (looks like if you were to tear bread, that was glued to a surface, away and the section of bread glued were to stay on the surface). at first, i thought it was probably the mechanics who put it together but its more likely that the rodent ate that too!
those rats are all up in my betch

$250 deductible i believe
