When playing a CD or iPod, the audio system doesn't pause the CD or iPod when I receive a phone call. I can't find a setting to change that.

Is this yet another stupid design flaw? Or am I just missing something simple here in the settings?

If so, between the paint, nav system, road noise, buzzing at high RPMs, I'm really beginning to see why I've owned 5 BMW's, and miss them.

You can't seriously sit here and hate, can you?? As if BMW's don't have their fair share of problems(they actually have more). Given the choice of owning a BMW or Infiniti without a warranty, you would be either rich or stupid to choose the BMW. Now that being said, if money weren't an option I'd be driving a M3/M5.

 

The reliability problems with BMW is exactly why I'm driving Infiniti now. All 5 have had plenty of problems.

BUT - the ones under warranty don't cost much, they're just a hassle to take into the shop every month or more. I would not own a BMW outside of warranty.

I guess it's a bit of a shock. There a certain things that's I've come to expect in a luxury car, and Infiniti just can't stand up. It's a nice upscale car (RWD Maxima), but way too many misses in the details to be considered a luxury brand.

Lexus on the other hand is a luxury brand, but their cars are about as fun to drive to sitting on a couch. Acura is also a step up in luxury compared to Infiniti.

That's why BMW, Mercedes, Audi & Porsche have the brand name they do, and why they cost more. Lesson learned for me.

 

I had a friend just trade his '08 BMW 3 series for a new G Sedan. He often complained of the BMW's reliability, warranty or not.

I think Infiniti fills that middle of the road niche for people like myself. It offers quality and style at a reasonable price. I really didn't want a so-called "luxury" car like Lexus or Acura (not a fan of the Acura front ends). I could've easily afforded a BMW (every 10th car in my city is a Beemer), Mercedes or Porsche but that is typically not my style. I wanted something reliable, of quality and that looks sharp and the G sedan fit the bill. I wouldn't have anything else.

 

I had to take my BMW into the shop for something monthly too. I have never had an issue with any 4 of my Infinitis. I love only taking them in for maintenance. I'd trade the radio pausing for that any day. Click the button to repeat. It's better than wasting a day dropping the car off for service. Not to mention the bang for the buck.
Did your BMW have voice commands, Birds eye nav, nav weather, Bluetooth audio? You can get much more on an Infiniti for less $

 

Yeah it's a bit strange that it doesn't pause the CD/Ipod source but I've gotten used to first hitting the power button on the radio before accepting incoming calls.

 

I don't get it. Is visiting the dealer every month to fix problems a luxury?

 

I would think that the CD/iPod issue, as well as a couple non-issue annoyances I've found with the stereo (one being that I cannot import to the Music Box from a USB jump drive), could be easily remedied in a software update. So, I am not bent out of shape over that at all.

In the meantime, I know I am getting into a snazzy little car that will start each morning and will be fun getting me to wherever I am going, and look good doing it!

 

Actually, it does this if you happen to be using an iPhone for both the music and phone. But that's not a perfect solution either because, as most of us know, the system won't charge the iPhones (or at least the 3g and later) unless you get a badly-designed aftermarket adaptor.

And obviously that's all the phone itself doing that -- nothing to do with the car.

But with my previous 5th gen ipod classic, I had the same gripe about it.

 

Did you just say that BMW nav systems are better than the Infinitis??? You must be crazy...

 

Oh, but I agree that not pausing the music for phone calls is stupid....

 

The problem for me is that Infiniti bills itself as the "luxury" Nissan brand, and yet:

- I have so much road noise on my sport model on uneven surfaces, it makes me wonder if there's any sound insulation in the car at all
- The paint scratches if someone spits on the car
- Sheet metal so thin I fear a 100 mph drive will crater the hood
- The leather is thin
- The navigation nannie's won't let me do anything reasonable while the car is in motion
- Voice recog that's worse than my 3 year old Blackberry Curve
- The engine and tranny buzz through the steering wheel like a vibrator at high RPM
- The passenger seat doesn't have the same adjustments as the driver (lumbar, side bolsters, etc.)
- And now dumb electronic "common sense" settings like pausing the damn CD player when a phone call comes in are missing

It's not that the G is a bad car, I'm just discovering how much I'm truly giving up by driving a "luxo" maxima / altima. It's a fun car to drive, but luxury, it's not.

 

With the 2010 you can play your iPhones iPod via Bluetooth audio wirelessly and plug it in to charge if you need. It does stop the iPod when you stop, as well as pandora. That's one of my fave features about the 2010 is the wireless Bluetooth audio

 

I think BMW is the safest luxury car in the world. It has a good track record of breaking down every month; it is very safe as it does not go any where after break down. It is a truly extraordinary luxury car!

 

It seems to me that you are simply a BMW owner bashing on Infiniti's. Your making all the "small" things a big deal simply because thats all you can find. Ok sure infiniti could have done better with these small problems, but overall imo they did a great job. I have yet to see an infiniti break down as fast as your beloved bmw's.
