HDD Media player recommendations?

I'm thinking about getting a hard disk based media player for my g37 vert - something like a 1TB system with composite output for the rca inputs. There are a number out there that look like they will fit in the armrest enclosure and that can be adapted to 12V car power. My iphone is 16 GB - not big enough for a large library - and is limited in media formats.

Does anyone have any experience with this or recommendations?

Peter

If you can get a 160GB Classic iPod. If your library is small enough and convert your media to suitable formats. Many conversion programs available. Probably costs the same as HDD or cheaper and it will be easier to control through the car.

I hadn't thought about the ipod classic - I was thinking more like an Argosy 1TB unit for $150 or so. Can you control the video playing ipod functions from the car controls? I would have thought when you switched to auxiliary input to get the video, the ipod would stop.

You would have to reconnect the ipod for video playback. But if you used the HDD you would have to be on AUX at all times. And I think the audio along with the video are disabled unless you have the parking brake engaged, correct me if I'm wrong. And unless you have a "MAGIC" car you can't watch video while moving, anyway. The ipod would have better feasibility.

And you know what I mean by "MAGIC" car right?

Yes - it is quite "magical". The issue is whether I mount a dvd player in the glovebox or a media player in the armrest.

I just tested it and the AUX audio works without the parking brake. but no video. And you can do the other functions (like map, destination and settings) without effecting the AUX output. I had questioned that. So I would say go with the HDD if you can easily control it. If you have to open the armrest to change songs every time you might be better off with an ipod and DVD player.
