Did a search and was reading all the topics but I'm still somewhat confused. Im planning to buy a 4080 box when the sedan version for it comes out and put either a 10" or 12" JL W6 depending on what size they make the 4080 box for. And I'll be using a JL Audio 500/1v2 amp. So for those that could please shed some input to me, the adivce would be greatly appreciated and welcomed.

So right now I just want to buy and get everything ready, while waiting for the 4080 guys to finish the sedan box. I'm going to have the sub and amp installed by one of the local car stereo installer shops around here but I don't want to overpay or be forced into buying other things I dont need. So my main questions are how much have others paid to have this type of installation done? What do I need to buy other than the Sub, Amp, and Box (enclosure)? Also I've seen people with a **** for their bass installed, I would like one of those also installed for me also. Would that be a pretty straight forward install and not cost me too much more to have done? What are some signs to look for that my installation was done correctly and is of high quality? The last thing I want is some guy messing up my car just because I wanted more bass. Thanks again for those that can help me!

 

I've got the same setup except I've got the coupe. I have the amp hidden under the passenger's side trunk. You can buy the **** for the JL amp (around $30 or so) and the complete install is less than $300 for the "hidden" amp (probably less if you have it installed on the back wall). The sub just "pushes in" the corner and takes less than a minute to put in. Your installer should supply the wires for the sub and to the battery. Good luck!

I also have the 500/1v2 and 10w6v2. BTW, the 4080 ONLY fits a 10" sub, and a standard 10" sub at that. As in, you won't fit a 10w7 in there.

The Image Dynamics IDMAX10 is probably the most powerful sub that will fit in the 4080 and be withing spec, although with some mods, such a spacer or two. The IDMAX can fit and be well within spec in the 4080. I have one coming in. I'll see how it sounds in a couple of days.

 

if it were my shop doin it, youd be lookin at the 160-200 range for the install depending on amp location. thatd be amp/sub install, bass **** install, hi-lo install. as far as other components go, u need to purchase a hi-lo adapter, bass **** (if needed), amp kit (essential wires), and RCAs. good luck

 

^^ To clarify, JL 500/1v2 has HI-LO built in. Disregard that part of 619's post.

 

Does the JL 250/1v2 have HI-LO built in? If not, is there a specific one I would need for our Gs or any HI-LO adapter will work?

 

to Finagles post... they do have built in hi-lo, however that isnt the best way to set it up due to poor signal. you will need an RCA to speaker wire. it is better to buy a secondary hi-lo... they r only $20. and if you dont wanna spend it to get a cleaner sound/adjustable hi-lo, then thats youre call. just suggesting what i always do . im personally gonna use the Audison Bit One for my setup. later on guys

 

I agree that you can do better.. your choice of a Bit One is proof of that. However, if you solder on RCAs to the lines going into the Bose amp, the Hi Lo in the 500/1 is easily on par with the quality you get from the 20 dollar jobs. If you want a better Hi-Lo, but don't have cash for a 360.2 or Bit One, then get a Navone.

 

At the time Circuit City professionally installed my amp floated on my rear fold down seat for $75.00 with remote base switch. And this deal includes removal and retun to factory condition for free. I was told this was very popular with leaser's. Installation was excellent. Of course they are out of business now but...

Bestbuy offers a similar deal for sub woffer/ amp install. Give them a call or go by there to talk to the installer to find out all the stuff you'll need.

 

dont buy the 4080 box its over priced and not that good.
just make your own box so you can make it like how want like how i did.
i took out my spare tire and put in two rockford t1's 10" and it pounds a lot. I still need to carpet my box, put my extra speakers on the side of the amp, and put a pixie glass over my amp. Heres my video link on youtube
