Seat Warmer Problem

I have noticed that the driver side seat warmer (6MT 2008) works for about 5-10 minutes and then it seems to switch itself off. The switch is still switched to hi or low and the light is still on but the heat disappears. I don't know if this is the same in the passenger seat because I haven't been able to test it yet.

I live in Florida so it is not that important that I get my a** warmed but it is nice on that annual chilly (60 degree) day. I don't want to let anyone start ripping out anything sensitive if it is a big job to fix it.

I have never had seat warmers before. Is it supposed to do that? Any ideas how to resolve it?

mine does that. i think it's a built-in feature so your @ss doesn't burn off.

I dont know if it actually turns off or if you just adjust to the temperature.

You know, once you are used to the heat you dont realize its there anymore. Kind of like how you stop smelling a smell after awhile.

there's probably a temperature switch that turns off the heating coils temporarily.. until the temp drops below the threshold.

mine does this on the HI setting, but not on the LOW setting that i can tell.

I had this issue on my passenger side. Turns out its not an issue. It heats up to 88 degrees then shuts itself off. Thats what its meant to do. My driver side however heats up pretty hot and stays hot which is how i like it in the frosty mornings.

Be happy it turns itself off. The driver's seat in my mother's Mini Cooper S caught on fire last year. She had to pull over and throw handfuls of snow on the seat to put the fire out. It completely melted her winter coat and even singed the ceiling!!

IMO, I'd prefer one that turns itself off.

I'm sure it's a safety feature so nothing gets burned.
