I have been a diehard V1 user for about 8 years. My recent decision making process is that I'd all but stopped trusting my V1. It goes off SO much that I pretty much stopped paying attention to it. So one of those time it was going to cry wolf and it was going to be a cop. So which evil do you want? Take a risk on ignorning your detector and get a ticket, or take a risk that maybe your detector has blocked out a cop. I decided that the latter was the less risky. I don't drive crazy so I'd rather have a detector that when it goes off I know I should pay attention.

Did you do the custom programming trick on your V1 to false less?

false alarms on the v1 is as annoying as false sense of security on a 9500.

Thanks for all the arguments for and against. This really helped me make my decision. In the end, I decided to just purchase a V1 and invisicord!

actually he's pretty dead on, unless the cop leaves his radar running constantly most detectors wont pick up on it and with laser your pretty much tagged when the detector goes off because the cop has to aim and target your car specifically as opposed to radar which just shoots at anything coming down the road and gives you the speed. So alot of the time the cop has your speed as the detector sounds.

^ehh my 8500 has picked up a cop on an elevated bridge over 3 miles away before. i knew to slow down way before i even knew where the hell he was. most of the time you will pick up 1 or 2 beeps as it reflects off cars ahead of you.

laser is a different story. jam it or just go ahead and pull over cause you're fvcked.

I know I am in the minority here, but I have decided I am better off without one. I have used the V1 and Bell RX65 over the last 8 years. Both worked well. The V1 did a better job picking up radar, and as pointed out had a lot more false alarms. I like the arrows, but the false alarms got old.

Someone stole my BEL last year, and I went a while without a radar detector in my car (the V1 was in my wife's car, and I was too lazy to put it in mine). I have actually gotten use to driving without one. The V1 is still in my wife's car.

I look at this 3 ways:
1. So many LEO's around here use laser, it doesn't matter. I have avoided it a few times, and they got me once. Neither radar detector helped at all.
2. I don't drive around Dallas much, but on the main roads they are usually in the same places.
3. When I drive on the interstate, I usually make the same drive between Texas and Arkansas and I know where every LEO is.

I think the radar detector almost gives you a false sense of security. You tend to rely on it more than your better judgment. In the year since my radar detector got jacked, I have not gotten one ticket. I really think you just need to pay more attention when you drive.

With that said, I am not against radar detectors. I have had one for the last 9 years minus the last year, and I may get another one at some point. I am just not sure if they really help me much. I am sure they may help some people, I am just not sure if it really helps me.
