Locking keys in car

I thought it was supposed to be impossible to lock the intelligent key in the car? Atleast that is what the dealer had told me. The key can be locked in the car using the door lock button. Found out first hand.

I think he's referring to the "button" right there by the handle to open the door on the inside of the car. The "manual" lock.

Wait...

If you have the intelligent key in the car and is able to lock the door from the inside... this is possible if: 1) your window is down so that's how you managed to manually lock the door, or 2) you are in fact sitting inside and manually locking the door. But in either case, you can retrieve the key without a problem making this... a complete waste of time to talk about.

The way I was told at the dealer it was not possible to lock the heys in the car. Either using the outside button or the inside botton on the door.

well, using a bit of common sense, it is indeed possible to lock the "keys" in the car with the manual lock on the inside of the door. otherwise, it'd be impossible to "lock" the door while you're driving.

the convenience of your keys not being able to be locked in only applies to using the button on the outside of the door as this makes the most sense. typically, you would have the key in your pocket, press the door button, and be told that your key is indeed not in your pocket, but in your car!

PS, if you're trying to impress your friends by throwing your key in the trunk then closing the lid... be sure you LOCK your car first. i found out first hand that if your car is unlocked, you can indeed throw the key in the trunk, slam the lid, and the lid will stay shut. this is due to the fact that you can open the trunk from two places inside the car and the car is unlocked.

i left the key inside the trunk few times and i say 80% it wont close. 20% the car wont recognize the key's being inside and just lock. I know this because I had few troubles...

Perhaps it’s a side issue, but if you’re away from home with the spare IK unavailable and somehow loose your IK after locking the car, you’re effectively locked out. That’s why I wish Infiniti still provided that flat wallet key that I used to have with my ’04 G35 coupe. I heard that Lexus (my wife has a ’06 IS250) is adding that to their 2009 models even though they also have a keyless system.

if you lock your key inside (as impossible as thats supposed to be), couldn't you just press the outside unlock button? I'm assuming with the key being inside the car it will try to unlock or determine it should lock because the key is inside the vehicle. The proximity of the intellegent key is obviously close enough at that point that you could just push the outside unlock button and the door should do what's inputted.

I don't think so for security purposes, because what if you were inside your car and purposely had it locked... and a thief just pushed the button and unlocked it?
