What about HD radio

I'm interested in HD radio too and am a little disappointed that it's not available as stock or option. Anyone know how an aftermarket will or will not affect the screen integration? Am I going to lose the "user experience" from the screen display with radio, CD, etc? I don't imagine that it would be an issue with the ipod hookup since it appears to be a stand alone. Thoughts or suggestions...?

I was told by no one important that HD radio was now standard in all new models. I dont if this is true or not but I would really like to know.

I hate answering a question with a question, but by HD do you mean High Definition or Hard Drive? I know that if you want the HDD it only comes with the navigation system

High definition radio is new broadcast technology that is increasingly being used by both AM and FM broadcast stations. Basically, AM sounds like FM quality and FM has the sound quality of CD's. I know it's standard on new BMW's but I haven't heard that same thing from any other auto mfr's. I'm sure it will eventually become the standard but if that's not what is supplied now, anyone know if integration is possible with an after market radio and not lose the display screen intrface?

I dont know about the HD Radio yet, But I do know that it has AV Jacks in the console so that you could hook up a DVD/TV/Video Game and it can be viewed on the Nav system. It has had some other kind of input source for some type of memory but I couldnt figure it out and it was hard to see. If anyone knows what it is please let me know. Also, when I went I saw the G37 today, my salesman tried to look up a street using voice commands and it was hard to get the Nav to recognize the street names.

Isnt that still an Antenna style radio that will still give you static? If so, why waste the money on that crap, and just get Satellite radio. Yes there's a subscription but the music is better IMO

Yes and No.

It uses an antenna to pick up a wirelessly transmitted digitally modulated audio signal. Its similar to the way XM and Sirius work except its done via terrestrial antenna's as opposed to geosynchronous satellites.

Think of it as an audio equivalent to the ATSC HDTV standard. ATSC is what allows you to use a VHF/UHF antenna (old style rabbit ears or roof mount antenna) to pick up HDTV signals from all of your local TV stations.

As far as the static goes... any signal break up would result in a static sound similar to what Sirus or XM does when you go under large bridges, etc. When the signal is strong it will sound perfect, when it goes low it will cut out temporarily.

So with HDRadio (which really isn't high def per-se) you get a high quality version of your regular local radio shows, and in most cases a few extra stations you wouldn't normally get via FM tuners. However it won't have near the content that XM or Sirius do, which is why its free.

IPOD interface? It looked odd. It did not look like the standard connector that most cars use for ipod connectivity. I know that this car fully integrates this, but what kind of cord do I need to get? Is it included?

i can't explain why infiniti wouldn't put HD radio in the new G as i dont expect it's for technical reasons but if you consider how many options you have to listen to music i see no reason to want for more.... Radio AM/FM, CD audio, mp3 on your compact flash, mp3 on your CD, iPod integration, audio-in, XM sat.

i think your bases are covered.
