I know the cars not out yet but the interior is basically the same as the new sedan so I'm wondering if anyone has a clue as to if its possible to put a double din head unit in that interior. I got an 05 coupe now wit the Kenwood DDX-8017 and a full audio system (subs amps speakers...) that i'd wanna rip out and put in the new coupe is that possible?

 

My guess is that you could.. but if you do you'll loose that LCD tie into the cars climate, radio and other functions (miles, next service stuff. etc..). Of course radio is no big deal if you're ripping it out!

If it were me i'd leave what's there but beef up all the other stuff (subs, amps etc..)

 

I'd listen to the new "Studio on wheels" before you decide. If it's good enough, you can sell your aftermarket audio parts and get some money back for other upgrades...

 

+1 If anything, I would go with subs amps as well. I just don't think installing an aftermarket HU would look very clean. IAlso, I'm not if it would be possible to integrate things like the Music Box and CF slot with an aftermarket HU.

 

Given the fact many carmakers have practically eliminated audio upgrade options for most cars by integrating everything you'd think the least they could do would be to have some sort of option for line outs or digital outs.. Sorry, but the SOW doesn't come close to a really solid aftermarket system.

Now if I am wrong and outputs do exist then I am much more pleased.

 

yeah, im pretty sure with the new studio on wheels with the bit burr should sound amazing

 

no way, listen i dont care what car i ever get, i rip out the crap they give you. i need to be top of the line, all out loud, annoying to the person next to me just becuase i love it. studio on wheels can kill itself

It's a Digital to Analog converter by a company called Burr-Brown (now owned by Texas Instruments). They are excellent sounding D/A converters (converts the digital bits on the CD to analog sound). My Kenwood eXcelon 25th Anniversary head unit has dual Burr-Brown D/A converters.

Of course, for the sound quality to be noticeable over cheaper D/A converters the amplification and speakers, etc., have to be top quality as well....

 

I listened to the Sedan's SOW, and I didn't like it one bit. It was too muddy and soft for my taste. The only thing that will probably sound good on SOW are piano sounds :-P

I'm concerned about the audio upgrade path as well, so I ended up dropping the G37 as my next car.

 

Nearly all of which becomes irrelevant due to road, wind and engine noise...

 

Studio on wheels is very nice as a source, but the rest must go.

 

Sound dampening works well, so we are back in the game...
