Just installed the Top Speed Pro 1 Y-back exhaust

I am going to take a short break, drink a beer or two and then I will write up a short review and post some video/sound clips to youtube of before and after.

Be back in a few .

Here it is:

First of all, the stock pipes were easy to remove. Except on the y pipe the bolts were welded to the exhaust for some reason. Not sure if it was just on my G or all of them are like that. It wouldn't be a huge problem but I couldn't take off one of the nuts, it was too rusted. Had to cut the nut and the bolt off. Other than that it was easy.

Now the Top Speed Pro 1, the quality looks great to me. But I don't have anything to compare to. Not sure if a $1500 exhaust is better quality than the Top Speed. I am very happy considering it only cost $600 shipped.

The fitment of the Top Speed was perfect. Absolutely no complaints on the fitment.

The sound:

On a cold engine it sounded loud, but in a good way loud. Once the engine warmed up a little, the sound level went down and sounded much like the stock exhaust with just a little more rumble and bass.

I can't rev the G37 past 5000rpm so not sure how it sounds after 5000rpm. I have not driven it yet. But reving the car up to 5000rpm it sounds better than stock but not much louder at least in the drivers seat. The videos are still uploading to youtube. Once they are done I will post links.

Overall without yet driving the car I am very happy. May add a few comments once I get to drive it.

BTW, I did paint the cans black..

You shouldn't be free revving the engine that high. Eventually, rod knock will be louder than your exhaust

Not sure how you can make any conclusions without driving it. It's like doing an alignment and not road testing the car. Although the numbers may look good, the car might not drive straight. Your exhaust will sound different once the engine is under load.

Not really worried about hurting anything. At least not from reving it a few times. The car and oil was warmed up. I have done this many many times to my G35 at 7500rpm without any issues. Car now has 250,000 and the engine still feels and drive like new.

And I am not yet making any conclusions.

Will post more after I drive it but at this point I am happy with the quality, install, fitment, and sound while the car is not moving and that I all I stated at this point.

Glad you're happy w/ it. Mine's been great for over 4 years and 40k miles, sounds even better now than it did back then. I just used the OEM Y-pipe bolts as mine were pretty much frozen to the flange too. I believe your tips are a bit smaller than mine, mine are 4.5" OD, what are yours?

Are you going to paint the cans?

I will measure the tips later. I painted the cans already. Just the can in black.

Does anyone know if changing the Y-pipe will yield in any benefits and/or sound change.

Any Y-pipes available for the AWD models ?

thanks

Sounds great. If you get both videos started, then pause them and run one then the other, the difference is tone is obvious. However, the after video is further away from the car than the before video, so apples vs. slight-different-apples.

Either way, it's much improved. Same for the tips. (Look like 4" to me.)

Rochester,

If I remember correctly the camera was about the same distance from the car, but on the stock video I zoomed in more...
And yes you are right they are 4", just measured.

Here's the one you want, but appears to be out of stock at the moment, give them a call, they're good about estimated ship dates.

Here's the one you DO NOT want, be sure to be careful when ordering as you could end up w/ this version, it has the thin wall tips that look like electrical conduit

That really sounds nice. Sounds expensive, if you know what I mean. Not cheap ricer gear.

I was going to ask, but I think you clarified, that the third video was a warm start?

Thanks for the write-up and sound clips si_driver (Go Redskins - noted the Annapolis License plate frame :-)

I actually thought the clip of your stock exhaust sounded good :-)

The TSP definitely sounds better though; I think this remains the best exhaust value for the G37 sedan, especially since the stock y-pipe is already near optimal on the third gen G.

Let us know how the car responds and if there is any drone.
