Who primes their fuel pump before starting the engine?

Hi guys,

This is my first car with a push start button and since the very first time i started the G a couple years ago i just pressed it once to start it. In all of my previous cars civic si, integra type r, wrx and Sti i would prime the fuel pump before starting.

Ignition on, listen for the fuel pump, and then start it.

It just seemed so convenient to press it just one time for starting. Also loved how i didn't need to use the key anymore especially for those times when you're in hurry.

I recently started priming FP again. I'm not sure if it's necessary or if it helps but it seems to be a good idea to continue doing it.

So anyways who prime's the fuel pump before starting and who doesn't?

I think you're putting the G on a pedestal here.

What do you mean by prime?

I drove a 1960 something Cadillac once, when I was like 16. I think it was a 400 cid V8 with a 4 barrel. You had to prime the carb by pumping the gas pedal before turning the key

You don't have to do that with a G37. Or any car since like 1982.

Priming the fuel pump. Turning the ignition on first, listen for the fuel pump and then start it. It's not necessary i'm sure.. but back then my tuner for my Sti advised i always do this to ensure there isn't any air in the fuel lines while starting.

updated OP for clarification

These cars are computer ran on everything. Also something else that if you listen closely you can hear the fuel pump turn on a half second before the engine starts.

I remember an old Nova I had. I had to pump the gas twice. Only twice for it to start when cold. Any more and I would flood it. Any less and it would take for ever to start. The good ole days!

Cars haven't needed to be primed since the days of carbuerators.

Pumping the gas pedal once also activated the bimetallic spring to close the choke

Who primes their fuel pump before starting the engine?

I do it. Force of habit. Turn it on, then three beeps later I wake the neighbors. I also always let it warm up before going.
