Slight popping/pinging noise - Normal according to "master tech"
As a few of you know, I just had my 6mt tranny replaced under warranty. Well, I got it back and noticed a sort of popping/pinging noise. I can't really tell where it is coming from, but it is definitely there.
The noise happens in neutral sporadically (not constant at all), and gets louder/quicker as i pull my foot out of the clutch. Sounds like someone is gently rattling a can of marbles.
The car drives fine, clutch and tranny feel good. Now i dropped it back off, and the service advisor kept it over night, had 3 techs look at it and he said the "master tech" said this is just a characteristic of where the clutch/transmission is seated. Clearly they hear the noise.
Should i call BS? Go to another infiniti dealer?

Doesn't sound normal to me, but I don't have a manual transmission to compare to. Orlando Infiniti shows 2 manual transmission "Q60" coupes in stock. I'd see if they also make the noise you speak of. If they do, then there you go. If not, back to the drawing board.
Good luck!

Did they use the original clutch and throw out bearing? Did they cut the flywheel if it had any abnormal wear? From what you are describing it sounds like the throw out bearing is hanging up which will cause a ticking noise, clutch not fully disengaging and making noise and wearing out.

OP - check the work order for clutch slave cylinder parts - that is what our throw out bearing is called. it should have been replaced as part of the gearbox replacement under warranty.
the noise you are likely hearing is a combination of our noisy CSC and our flywheel/pressure plate parts. the flywheel is dual-mass which helps to keep things quieter, but not completely. we do not have the quietest or smoothest gearboxes, but in general they are durable units.
it sounds like you didn't think about it, but i would have paid for them to replace the master cylinder and clutch disk parts while they had everything apart since warranty covered the re+re labor. the master cylinder is tied to the CSC as part of the clutch hydraulics and they are recommended to be replaced in pairs. good news is that the parts are relatively cheap (~$120/ea).

I just got it back from the dealer today, they said everything is 100% normal and that my clutch is in excellent condition. It looks as if they replaced the MASTER cylinder, not the slave. I have included an attachment of the work order from the dealer below. You guys will know what it says better than I do.
I definitely know that our transmission/flywheels/clutches are not the quietest out there, i experienced stock flywheel chatter on my old G35 6MT, I don't remember if I had the same knocking noise as I do here. I don't mind noise, as long as it isn't something faulty, or something wearing prematurely.
