The IPL is still a a popular option for a "Special Edition" car. C&D usually does pretty fair comparisons and their write-ups are typically spot on. It's too bad the IPL doesn't exceed the capabilities of the stock version. I still really like the Malbec color option though.

I just got finished reading the comparison test in the new issue of Car and Driver magazine. In that particular test, the IPL G37 ran the same exact performance figures as a non-IPL G37. The only thing the IPL did better was on the skidpad. Sadly, the G37 couldn't even come close of the performance to the Audi or BMW. Personally, performance figures don't mean much to me, but it would still be nice to see the G37 at least competitive with the other cars tested.

I read the same C&D article yesterday and it seemed a bit of an odd comparison for the IPL to be put against the 1M Series and the TT, much lighter and smaller, turbocharged cars. But the comments about the IPL having the same performance characteristics as the G37S was spot on and really made the lack of performance for the Infiniti PERFORMANCE Line obvious.
The Audi was a real surprise, but if you read the article then you know that the U.S. version of that car will not have the same performance numbers. Car and Driver figures it will run very similarly to the BMW. Either way, that is still much more performance than the G37.

my 2 cents - sitting here in Key West reading the forums on the beach.
There was an IPL unsold over at JBA Infiniti Ellicot City Md not too long ago, I asked about it and they told me it was up for grabs, so I know they are available. The Japan situation could effect availability though. Sure the first ones to hit the dealers sold before they came in, I doubt that will be sustainable now that the reviews are out. Not the wisest way to spend an extra 10k, you could easily achieve the same hp for less, but this was the first IPL attempt - I am sure they will adjust to more aggressive changes in the future or the IPL line will die among enthusiasts. Infiniti needs a new motor for this beast or FI, after that is achieved IPL will gain respect like AMG or M series. Until then IPL reminds me of an overpriced option package that yields zero performance gains over a "S" model.
Performance wise IPL should be running at least 430-450hp in the coupe, and be priced 10k-15k above the "S" model. I also would like to see a more aggressive stance and wider tires.
