Car won't start
Hey guys, I have a 2010 G37 sedan and this morning car wouldnt start. All the lights are working. Used my wife's car to jump my car. I drove to work and when i got to work i figure let me try shutting down the car and starting it. Car wouldnt start. Before i bring it to the dealer I figured let me share my experience. any ideas on what can cause this. battery, alternator, etc...
Thanks Gabe |
Battery...These cars require a strong battery to start. Even thou the battery may "seem" ok it's the battery.
|
Went to turn on the car just now. car started fine.
measured the battery across the terminals battery measured 12.5 V with the car off battery measured 14.14 V with car on |
Its the Amps, not volts, that start the car. 12.5 volts is great, but if the car needs 600 CCA and the battery can only produce say, 400 because of a low, shorting or dying cell, the battery is on its way out. You can pop the covers off and check for a low water levels, but if its your OEM battery then its 5+ years old depending on your build date.
Swing it by a auto parts store and have them put a load tester on it regardless. Winters a-coming. If you've never messed with a G37 battery, here is a good youtube: |
if u ever found out it's the battery, go for Optima Red Top battery .. the best on start up.
|
Had this happen to me. Car would just die overnight or parked for a few hours. Thought it was the battery, but turned out the BCM malfunctioned and was draining the battery when the car was off.
|
^ this actually becoming a common issue as i came across to a number of friends who had these issues , they ended up buying new BCM's or something .. i don't really remember.

You should read 12.6 volts with a fully charged battery. You can check individual cells with a battery hydrometer. About $10.00 Attachment 142587 Telcoman |
Took my car to a local auto store to have my battery checked.
They told me that the battery was fine and that I have give or take another year left on it. |
My 2010 G37 was about 3 years old when I finally noticed it didn't have a maintenance free battery.
I had to put almost 2 cups of distilled water in it and figured the battery would not last much longer. That was at least a year and a half ago and it still works perfect. It's possible by your removing the battery and hopefully cleaning the connections and re tightening them the battery problem will go away. Please post when you find out what your problem was. Tom |

Optima has went to the crapper over the last few years. |
Ok. Had the same issue this morning. Car wouldnt start. Car was jumped.
Had a battery test done at a different auto store. They told me battery was good. Have an appointment with infiniti on monday. |
Poor ground, corroded or loose cables, possible internal intermittent open or short?
If you still on the original battery it is time to replace it |
this are the results from todays battery test
voltage- 12.26V measured- 497 CCA rated- 550 CCA |

I would normally agree with you.....but I did this & the Redtop shorted out my electrical system. Why I have no idea but the dealer wasn't covering it because it wasn't an Infiniti battery. Had to pay to fix it. Filed a claim with Optima & all they did was tell me to return the battery for a refund to where I bought it.
Optima has went to the crapper over the last few years. What is more likely is that the battery polarity was switched. |
