I wonder. With the mid-engine, the little trunk turns into an even smaller trunk with a smaller-yet frunk.

Of course, a Corvette golf bag. Problem solved. With room in the frunk for your squash racket.

If they were true to their market, though, they'd carve out a spot for your bowling bag.

Took someone in my car today, they kept INSISTING that the "X" model on the G means it's an "extended wheelbase" model and that my car actually had a CVT in it and I didn't know what I was talking about. :confused2:

Driving back to Charleston from south Georgia on I95 yesterday afternoon - saw a black newer G37 sedan, debadged except for the G37Xs badge, and with the all-black grille and tint. Didn't get close enough to see plates - but I think it was NC. Anyone here? Had to double take - looked like my car until we passed and I did not see the akebonos. Looked like gunmetal wheels.

//we were one of (I'm guessing millions) of blue CX5s with too many bikes on the back of the car.

lol that really funny....I could see them thinking it was for "xtronic" like on the Nissans CVT equipped cars that have that little blue and silver badge...but extended wheelbase..the Q70 is the only Infiniti I know of with an extended wheelbase and they use the "L" as in long to denote it...ahaha....I kinda have to admire that persons confidence in themselves despite how wrong they were though...lol

Back in 2003, I just assumed the G35 was Infiniti's take on the Altima... same car, different trim. :hsugh: Took a few years before I realized how dramatically inaccurate that was.

lol I can see how people who aren't "into" the car wouldn't notice big differences and assume the cars were basically the same especially with the Altima being similarly sized...but for somone to get into details and insist on it is really funny to me...I wouldn't even want to argue with them about it...I'd just want to hear more just to see how wildly off base it could get lol

I've had several people compliment me on my Maxima.

//It isn't a maxima.
//I mean, it is, except for being rear wheel drive and a totally different motor and different body pan, but...

Yikes! Did you kick them out of the car while driving or use the passenger seat eject button?

Might move forward with a shift knob project...

Can anyone with a suede/alcantara shift boot comment on upkeep and wear-n-tear?

rotarymike 07-26-2019 12:23 PM

I've had suede boots before. They tend to get skin oil soaked into them right around the bottom of the shift knob, and catch all the detritus that accumulates in the car and look like rump after a while. Same issue with light-colored smooth leather - I had white in several of my white-on-black Mazdas. Looks nice, until it doesn't. Keep in mind that I do not rest my hand on the shifter when not shifting.

If you're super-fastidious about keeping the car clean, and only touch the top of the shifter, then you should be fine. (also assuming stick, because auto won't be touched as often and should be fine as long as you vacuum it up often).

Obligatory chat content:

I'm getting a little depressed about the pile of parts I've got sitting around for the car with no time to work on it. I used to look forward to hurricane season as my wife and kid evacuate and I usually don't... and have tons of time to get shtuff done. Now with a disabled family here I can't stay behind. I've tried pissing my wife off so she leaves me alone for a weekend, and that didn't go well at all. Quitting the job is right out too. Any ideas to make more hours of the day?

It really should not be any more difficult than seats with suede inserts or even cloth.

I think the G has ruined me for any other manual transmission vehicle. I test drove a 98 4runner the other day, for winter. Honestly I was scared as hell driving it. The clutch engagement point felt like my knee was up past the steering wheel, and the shifter throws!!!! The whole driving experience felt like I was on a delay, because it responded so slowly. I've been trying to convince myself that I still want it (I've always wanted a 4runner and this one was in amazing shape) and that I could adjust the pedal, get an sts and it would be all good. But I don't think it's working.
