Any guesses or industry news about what may come in 2011?

When would the G37 sedan get a makeover?

What about the new Federal MPG/CAFE rules? How much longer can Infiniti sell big engine, 300+ HP cars that get 18 MPG? (Obviously, I want to buy one before that changes!)

I am curious about this as well. My 2008 lease is up Feb of 2011. I am betting that is damn close to when the new one is coming out. If it comes out in March or April perhaps I can extend my lease a month or two. If that doesn't work maybe rent a car for a little bit. All depends on what they are changing on the new model. Or perhaps just buy my car. who knows.:)

Probably nothing IMO. The G's seem to be on a 2 year refresh cycle. My guess is you won't see significant changes until MY 2012.

^^Agreed. But it's more than just the G. Look through the entire Infiniti/Nissan lineup and you'll find they have been very consistent in refreshing existing models, with mid-model styling cues that will carry on for another 2-3 years. The cost of R&D is in excess of $1M per model and no car maker can afford to be cavalier in swapping out models.

I wouldn't be surprised to see hybrid technology being used in the G within a few years, though.

I wouldn't mind a hybrid G. As long as it is AWD. I doubt that will happen... :icon43:

Just like the M, the hybrid will be rwd only. OH well.

Since Infiniti just did a mid-cycle refresh (and nicely done at that) for the MY2010 G37, I would not expect any meaningful change for MY2011. With its 5-year generation cycle, there should be a completely redesigned G for MY2012. However, if history is any indication, it won't be out until October, 2011. (We hardly knew how the MY2010 might look 3 months ago.)

I agree. I wouldn't expect to see a whole new G until 2012 as a 2013 model. I'm curious what they're going to do with the engine. I think they're at a crossroad here since they can't just keep increasing displacement. At some point here soon, they're going to have to find a way to make more power to keep up with the beamer. This may esp be true since bmw came out with the 335is. I defintely expect to see direct injection on the next engine as well. Perhaps FI as well??

Ahh, but here is the interesting thing with the 335i/G37 relationship, BMW has the M3, wherever they put out its performance, the 335i has to be dumbed down so it does not get too close. Infiniti do not have this issue. Infiniti does not have to change displacement with the 3.7l, its technology that will be the issue in the next gen. Direct Injection is a probability. The Nismo Z is on 350HP with current technology so its not difficult to envisage the VQs putting out 350HP in the next gen and a little bit more TQ. So a set up like 350HP/290TQ is feasible IMO. A reduction in weight will also help.

I dont think its important for Infiniti to beat the 335i, they just probably want to get very close and at the same massacre the inferior 3er engine. The volumes are with the inferior 3er, you convince the public your product is better than that base engine, you get the volumes. I am pretty confident the future in bright for Infiniti.

The 3ers only problem is not limited to Infiniti. Lex I believe will be bringing an excellent product as well with the IS350. Their 3.5l already puts out around 277tq I believe and has mid 13s 1/4 mile times. You improve handling, increase interior room and there you have it, an excellent product. The days of the "ultimate driving machine" are numbered IMO. The 2010 S4 owns that title for now anyways.

No, it can be a good thing - you can combine a smaller engine with an electric to produce good HP and HUUUGE torque when in sport mode, way more than what we get now. And great mileage when you want it. Ferrari and Porsche are already working on / producing hybrids already.

Right - the M was on a 5-6 year refresh program - 2006-2011, and the first 06's came out late 05 and early 06. So G's - 08 to 2012, 2013.

First gen. M 2006-2010. The 2011 M is the new design.

Right, I meant 2010, up to 2011. Yes, I forget how old the physical design is, but no actual G37 sedan until 09. So who's to say when the new one will arrive, I was splitting the difference for predictions for a new G - maybe inf. will roll out the new design as a coupe a year earlier, like they did with the G37 - entirely possible.

Anybody else see the article about coming out with a 2.5 liter G... AKA G25?
Can't remember where I saw that but think it was an Infiniti blurb...will try to find it.

I had some time so did a google search. Looks like it might be true. I like the idea of a turbo and 280 hp if it got slightly better mileage. My Legacy GT got 27mpg on the highway and plenty of power for passing. Felt as quick or quicker than the G.
