Rubbing/Grinding Sound after New Wheels

Hey guys,

I am getting desperate at this point. Here is the Run Down:

1) 09 S Vert w/ 3k mileage on it

Swapped out stock 19 inch wheels for a set of Vossen Concave's with +38F/+42R.

Running a 6mm spacer up front to clear the Sport Caliper.

Ever Since the wheels went in I had a rubbing/grinding/lowhum sound coming from the front wheels that can be slightly felt through steering wheel.

I originally had a 7mm universal spacer installed until Vossen sent out a hubcentric spacer. The Hubcentric spacer took care of the vibration and MOST of that noise. However its still there, WTF!!

It is most noticeable from 20mpg upto 40mph. Highway speeds the humming sound is completely gone.

2) I also have a clicking sound clearly coming from the front drivers side wheel which was also happening on the passenger side wheel with the universal spacer. The wheels have not been swapped around. It happens under light acceleration, during braking, and when turning the wheel to the right and not to the left. Doesn't happen when cruising and driving in a straight line. The noise comes and goes.

I have very little thread to bolt up these wheels, do I need different lugs? Are these wheels not bolted up correctly?

not to insult you at all, but did you take the OEM bolt out of the front rotors? also, the spacers are most likely the problem...you might want to just take it to a shop and have them diagnose it

Wow, sorry dude, you are still having all these problems with the wheels. I was going to get those myself, vossens states, that they are going to make new CV1 for the G37S with different offset for the front, so at the end, its direct fit in. I'm now leaning towards the 082 or 084.

The Bolt was removed from front rotors(not insulted). Spacers are 6mm Hubcentric straight from Vossen to fix there **** up with these wheels.

Hey Marcelo,

Yea man they sent me a spacer and it fixed most of the issues, I just can justify driving a 50k BRAND NEW CAR with noise coming from the front. I think I am gonna have to swap these out.

I emailed Vossen they never responed to my issues, I pm'ed someone from Vossen on this board with no response after I was told +38 +42 was a perfect fit. I feel like I got the shaft. I should of just saved myself 3k and left the stock wheels on the car. I hope nothing else is ****ed on the car because of these wheels.

I also heard they are making a new offset, but that could be months from what I understand.

Don't know if this applies to you, but I had something similar happening with my previous car. I got some aftermarket winter wheels / tires and got a funny sound from the back wheels after installation. I kept looking, nothing seemed to touch. Finally I called TireRack who nicely arranged for a local installer to look at the car. It seems the bolts shipped with the new package were actually too long. The local guys cut them a bit, problem solved, it all took ~1 hour. Got through 3 winters with the setting, no problem.

Conclusion: have a professional look at them. Also call the guys who sold you the parts, probably they have some more info.
Good luck

man those vossen concave new wheels are slick but the factory S wheels fakin look just as sweet bro if anything almost the same style and look except the vossens are a little nicer. in my opinion would have gone with the 82's. they look sharp and sporty yet classy. the concaves woulnt even make any of my friends even notice te change i bet. i dunno? but im a perfectionist and ANY rubbing sound for me would be unacceptabe, especially if u dished out the gwap to make the car better. cant even stand when my clutch chatters when hot or even the slightest squeal from my brkes at very low speed stops.

Appreciate all the input and help from everyone on the board. I am trying to stay positive about the whole situation.

I spoke to a vossen rep over the phone that is doing what they can to make this right. Thats all I ask of them at this point. It seems as if they are take extra steps to help me.

Vossen still good with me so far as long as I see they are attempting to help me fix these issues.

That rubbing/grinding sound must have been somethihng...
Probably best to take them off the front and check everything out.

Glad Vossen is doing the right thing... Congrats on the Car.
Please post a pic of this beautiful ride, I've never seen a vert with these wheels.
They are my favorite look on this ride.
