what car will be motortend's car of the year?
i started this thread over on driver and got a very tepid response. however, the more i think about it, the more certain i am that the g37 will be car of the year (as was the g35 in 03). i see no other car that has had the same amouint of buzz either before or after release. i may be completely off base, but give you opinion or an alternative if you disagree.

Hmmmm.... maybe the 335?
GTR? (too early lol) |
probably a 335, those guys are so BMW bias it's sickening, and this coming from a BMW driver... Not that it really matters anyways, I like reading their articles but at the end of the day I get what I like better. Both cars are pretty equal except I think the G37 is a safer car because the 335's interior puts me to sleep so I'm going for a new G...

Willing to bet it will be the 335.

Wow thats like the what not to buy list....
|
its sad but iwll go to the 335. Maybe they will see the shift but both are solid built cars and deserve awards.
|
WOW That list was all american cars up until recently. And man do they love the T-Bird....In 1993 I had an MX-6 so technically/indirectly I have owned two MCOTYs... yay. Hoping for a 3rd.
Anyway I think that since Motor Trend was the company that wrote the article: The King is Dead" It would be contradictory for them to chose the 335 as COTY over the G37. I think that it will be neither. I bet it will be the Honda Accord or something. Don't they normally chose a car that is in it's first model year? The 335 has been out since '06 as an 07 model right(?) |

This doesn't have anything to do with Motor Trend, but the G37 is a finalist against the Audit TT and S5 for Canadian Car of The year in the Sports/Performance under $50k category.
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articl...fest08main.htm I doubt the G37 will be crowned MTCOTY though. Last year, the new G35 was a finalist but fell short of the new Camry because Motor Trend stated the G35's design was too similiar to the previous G. While I disagree completely, I am guessing they will have the same thoughts on the G37. |

While I disagree completely, I am guessing they will have the same thoughts on the G37. I agree with you though. I think the new sedan underwent a much larger design change, first gen to second gen, than did the coupe. At least the first gen coupes had flowing lines. The first gen sedan wasn't nearly as athletic. -- I think one of two scenarios will happen: 1.) The 335i will win because of its amazing engine and ability to create on-demand torque from some ridiculously low RPM (don't forget better mpg's). Also, the design was cautious yet tastefully done. I also think the hardtop convertible is a big reason the 335i might win. Editors seems to really enjoy it. The G37 will be a finalist because of the lack of torque and controversial styling. This would also lead the way for the GT-R to win it next year. 2.) The G37 wins because of its value, sensuous styling, and VVEL technology. Also, the new G addresses everything Infiniti failed to do with the first gen., less NVH and refinement. This decision would also fit with its "The King is Dead" article from earlier in the year. I don't know what other car it could be. No car received more press, positive or negative, than these two. |
