Wink Z1 G37 Sedan Catback with Berk HFC Review

Hello everyone! I’ve got a 2013 g37x sedan and recently upgraded my exhaust system

I had a topspeed catback for the last 7 years, loved it plenty but once it developed a leak it was time for an upgrade. Not a lot of reviews on G stuff in general much less this specific catback so I thought you might appreciate some thoughts on it. I plan to get a tune shortly so will happily update with that and/or vids.

I went with the z1 system after scouring the internet for vids/reviews. At the end of the day maybe the lack of coverage for the z1 catback is why I went with it. “Oh stillen is too quiet, Ark has rasp at 3.542k rpms bro”…too much subjectivity and it makes it tricky to make an informed decision. Motordyne was on the list but just a little too much $$$. So maybe it was a leap of faith in some regard and I’ll admit those 4.5” black tips on the z1’s won me over.

However having the system for just 2 days I can tell you I am in LOVE! This system with the berk hfc’s shocks me to the core with how DEEP it is. Start it up and it rumbles nice and low. Just in park the car sounds like it wants to kick your *** lol and would have a passerby guessing on the number of cylinders you have. I am truly blown away.

Once I got on it I was so relieved to hear exactly what I wanted: deep, refined, rumbly, clean. Sounds like an adult owns the car as again your first reaction is “crisp, smooth.” Even better when you lay on it and listen to that VQ song come to life! Let off the gas and brrrum-brrm-brm…just so intoxicating. Not a flicker of rasp; the topspeed had some damn rasp so this is another beast entirely. Whether WOT or winding out the gear with minimal throttle, the notes are just pleasant and smooth all throughout the rpms. Almost needed a cigarette after my first downshift haha. Fairly noticeable drone at 1.5-1.8k which I personally enjoy. I once rented a challenger r/t and find the drone in that “cruising” rpm range to be nearly identical. Interesting, but because it’s deep and sexy sounding and not tinny/raspy I like the sound. Whether you’d like that sound may be a different story.

And while the placebo effect and the “I just paid a crapton of $ for this” effect are very real…this thing PULLS like never before and I won’t be convinced otherwise. I would note before the car really doesn’t throw you back until you get in those upper 4k+ range, but now I REALLY feel that midrange power everyone seems to mention with these mods. Not like the car is suddenly a rocket ship but the difference is not subtle.

Couldn’t be happier, and I will def get some videos up. However want to spare you the rose tinted goggles and mention this wasn’t just plug n play. The car notably (and expectedly) threw a code for the o2 sensor and had quite a rough idle on initial start. I did the throttle body relearn and it’s much better, but I’d argue a tune is certainly necessary for the best experience with these mods. Will update when I get around to that!

Thanks for reading, tell me about your setups!

Great post. I have a Tanabe Axleback with shorter Vibrant resonators, but have been looking into adding a Nismo Z H-Pipe and Midpipe: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...-on-sedan.html

What are your thoughts on those band-clamps between the mid-pipes and the exhaust pipes?
