My car is a 2008 G35S OB 6MT sedan. I bought the car stock and have modded the following below.

Interior

GTR start button
Red stitched shift boot
Nismo titanium knob
Red stitched steering wheel

Exterior

OEM front lip

Wheels/Suspension/brakes
370z sport wheels
G37 Sport brakes
Centric slotted rotors
Z1 braided lines
BC BR type coilovers
SPC rear camber kit

Performance

HPS tubes
Bullydog custom tune
Muffler delete

I thought I would document my car for anyone interested in any potential positive information they can gain.

My car recently spun a bearing due to low oil. If you're in the gas a lot, check your oil frequently or you'll end up like me. I will be switching to a higher boiling point oil such as Amsoil in the future. I was using Mobile 1 synthetic 5w-30.

I bought a 350z VQ35HR replacement motor to get it running again. It has 43k miles on it, my car currently has 75k, so at least I'm getting a lower mileage motor. I started the tear down and will document the rebuild as I work on it.

Not sure if that 350z motor is affected (I think it is) but you might want to think about changing the timing gasket if it's possible that it has the crap cardboard gasket while you have the motor out and easy to work on.

Looking good bro! I'm stoked for this because I don't know that I've ever seen a DIY thread for an engine pull/replace. Mad props to you sir! :biggthumpup:

What Brad said. Best time to replace that $10 gasket would be now. :) I believe vqsmile confirmed that the new gasket is a metal one and won't suffer the same fate as the cardboard one. That was a bad call whoever made that engineering decision. Cardboard? Come on now!

I read this in the past but I've yet to see a DIY about this done. I'm not understanding where these go however. Is there a DIY? I don't mind doing one if I understand exactly where these go. I have been referencing the FSM and it has helped tremendously with the tear down. :driving:

Might even send a PM to Cliff (Vqsmile) and he may be able to assist you.
It should be in the FSM under the rear timing section.

It would really be a shame to get this all back together and have the gasket fail, especially since you should be able to get it replaced real easy with it out of the car.

35Sport nice thread so far! Interesting for sure. Decent mod list I'd like to see what all you have done to the car after you've completed your new motor install and have had a couple years to add more extras.

Mind sharing with us how much you had to pay for that new motor? Some of us have placed so much cash into modding our cars it might actually be beneficial to buy a new motor someday rather than part it out lol.

The motor was 2000 shipped. I found it on ebay. I've had good luck with eBay and auto sales and purchases.

I have a few significant updates...

I got the motor out...I decided to remove it with the trans to make it easier to align the clutch later.
