Brake squeal when not braking
As the title says. And the sound goes away when braking, but comes back as soon as I release the brake pedal. I did have the Akebono kit installed with Centric Posi-quiet pads and Brake Performance slotted/dimpled rotors. Shop that did the install took a second look and didn't find anything. I do trust them implicitly too.
The calipers were ordered as brand new, so I highly doubt there'd be anything wrong with them. Sound isn't effected with the e-brake so it has to be the fronts. Brakes work great. Bedded them in. Pressure is good. Stopping is quick. Everything in that respect seems as it should be. Just looking for ideas. Sounds like dragging pads, but inspection didn't find anything. Just looking for more ideas. |
Dust shields perhaps?

Possible. But would they have anything to do with this noise going away when actually engaging the brakes? That's what's getting me.
Maybe the pads I got from Rock Auto are defective, but there are no marks on the rotors or anything. At least not on the visible face. |

I'll definitely get the lads checked out. Thanks for your input!

Happened to me. Applying the brakes deadens the sound of dust shields rubbing the rotor. |
