Headlight bulb holder replacement
Hi guys, so i'm having a problem with my headlight bulb where i broke off both sides of the bulb holder, so the spring doesn't solidly hold down. Thus the bulb is wobly and flickers while driving. I thought it was a bad bulb, but replaced it today and broke off one of the side plastic pieces. I had previously broken off the other side 2 years ago.
Anyone know a fix for this issue / or where I can buy a new bulb holder? The picture i attached is from an old ebay listing, but shows what I need to replace. Thanks. '12 g37s sedan https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...554303077d.jpg |
Or do I have to buy a whole new $350 assembly?

Hard for me to tell from the picture, can you take a more up close picture to the 'broken' piece? It doesn't look broken to me. Looks like the retainer spring can still lock into place.

you can probably put up a WTB for a damaged headlight or buy a damaged headlight and pull the part out of it ...for 350 you should be able to buy a fully working replacement headlight off ebay

The picture didn't have a broken piece, it was a generic picture showing the part. The arrow was pointing the the pieces that are broken off on each side, so the springs don't lock down. I was able to fix (hopefully) the problem by using a zip tie to hold down the springs. The zip ties are wrapped around the little nub at the bottom of the projector, being pulled so the springs go down towards the front of the car. Also, I packed the plastic cover cap full of electrical tap, made a mini mound, with the hopes of it wedging into the ballast to stabilize the light. In case the zip tie slips down from hitting bumps, or melts from the heat. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...a844212088.jpg |

nah. it ain't gonna melt. i ran the headlight for 10 minutes with the car stationary, and the parts were still warm enough to touch, i judge around 50C. that's not gonna melt anything. besides, the housing is also plastic.

Light went out again today. It sporadically will stay on after i start my car or play with the light switch but 95% of the time it wont kick on. Everything still looks solid on the inside so going to look into changing the ballast.
Anyone know if i can do that through the tire well / the cap hole. Or do I have to remove the entire assembly? |
