Has anyone replaced the front seats in their sedan?
 

I took out my driver's seat today trying to find what was causing an annoying noise when I corner. It seemed really heavy for a seat to me so I weighed it and wow, 75lbs!?! I think I could reduce some serious weight by putting in some Recaro or Sparco seats.

Has anyone tried this? I know I would give up the side airbags, but what do you do with all of the wires that plug into the seat without setting off lots of warning lights? Also does anyone make seat rails that would work for our car?

You would probably have to look up specs but maybe a set from a Nismo 370? Those might even be plug n play.

Thanks for the ideas, but I would go with a much cheaper set of lightweight racing/street seats. The only issue is what to do with the wiring since they would not have side airbags. Anyone do this on a sedan or have ideas on how to get the wiring to work without airbags?

I wouldn't spend $3000+ on those OEM Nismo Recaro seats either. You can get some quality Sparco or Corbeau seats at half of that price.

Well, that 10yr. old link is a good start for old G35's without intelligent key. Has anyone tried this on a '13 G37S sedan? I would hate the get the seats with no way to know for sure if the methods for old G35's will work for our cars.

Ive seen a bypass somewhere for side airbags. You basically plug a resistor in the plug for the side airbags, as long as it's the same resistance as the airbag itself, it should trick the module into thinking there's an airbag there. Key word here is should, this was a while back in a 5th gen maxima I think, so I'm not sure how it would translate to your G but it's something worth looking into.

Well, it looks like we are getting closer. Bocian, that is basically what I found in that old link that antirice posted up. It looked like it was a bit of a crapshoot as to how to trick the car about the passenger weight sensor too. I'll keep searching. I am sure someone has done this.

I just dug another 100 threads into my search for anyone who tried this. Still no sedans, but a couple of coupes who have race seats. A variety of different wiring techniques and it sounds like the best way is to cannibalize your stock seats for all the wiring harnesses and weight sensors to cancel out the airbag lights. Not exactly what I want to do.

Good find. I saw those seats before elsewhere, but did not realize they were going into a sedan. I pm'd him so hopefully, we can get some good info.

Those are the custom seats I told you about in your build thread, but you said something about wanting cloth, not leather.

Following... I hope there are some progressive updates as i too find the 75lb a bit much for our cars.

I have repalced the OEM seats with aftermarket ones and you will need resistors to trick the car into thinking the airbags are still there. Also you will need a weight sensor - either from your old seat or from another seat. I went to a local salvage yard and had them get the weight sensor from a 370z passenger seat. The weight sensor can be placed under the cushion of the seat, but may not work with people who don't weigh much (read: wife). I ended up having to roll mine up and zip tie it so my passenger airbag is always on. Another side effect with an aftermarket seat you will lose your power mirror functions.

Keep in mind that there aren't many options for seat rails - I had to order mine from Bride Japan which took 6 weeks. From my trial and error I learned that 370z and G37 coupe rails do NOT fit, so if you wanted to use a 370z seat you would need to modify the rails.
