Playing DVD's on your Nav
Playing DVD's on your Nav
Does anyone else think it's pretty funny that in order to play a DVD on the 2010 g37 Nav system, you not only have to be in park, but also have your "emergency brake" on! Ok, what are some of the situations where that will come in handy? Maybe sitting in a 2 hr traffic jam, so you can finish the movie! My kids were like, "what's the point of that feature?"
I didn't have an answer for them..Has anyone else figured a good place/situation to view movies on their g37 nav?

It's illegal in many jurisdictions to have a video playing in view of the driver. I'm pretty sure all OEM systems require the car to at least be in park in order to play any movies on the navigation display.
edit - Yeah there you go. California is the largest single car market in North America so if they mandate something then all manufacturers will comply.

Yes, I realize it's dangerous to watch movies while you drive, etc, but my point is why even offer the ability to view DVD's on your nav (and bring up the feature in the sales literature) at all then? When would you ever even watch them, unless you're stuck somewhere for 2 hours unable to move! Useless feature- give us another one we can actually use!
Because there are those that would get in an accident while trying to drive through traffic and watch a movie at the same time...then sue Infiniti for creating an unsafe feature. It's the world we live in.
I think it is a great feature. It is a shame that Infiniti has done away with the feature going forward for 2011. I can't tell you how many times I have used it waiting for my kids to finish with their soccer practice or picking up at the airport waiting for a delayed flight. If only it was a DVR and allowed for recording DVD's, that would have been better. I use this feature as a sales tool as most customers are interested when I mention it.
I use it as well when i get to work way too early over anticipating traffic(Or being heavy on the gas pedal), or when Im waiting an hour for my ol' lady to run into the grocery store and get something that should've took 10 minutes at the most. It comes in handy sometimes just not very often.
