I'm lucky enough to get the computer to read 23 setting cruise on 75 for long stretches of time. However, I live in a hilly part of TX and there is rarely a time where I drive continuously on a flat road.

These are my averages with about 30% city and 70% highway, 79 miles round trip 5 days a week. I am sure everyone probably knows that the computer is not accurate, it is off by about 1-1.5 mpg. I always reset the miles so that I can divide it by the gallons to get an accurate reading. I like doing that because if the mpg dips to much from normal driving then I know something is wrong with the car. The low one is due to the fact I accidentally reset the mpg's after driving a couple of blocks.

Cleaned the MAFs and throttle bodies replaced thermostat and car went from 12.5 L/100 (18 mpg) to 9.3 L/100 (23MPG) on my commute. The throttles bodies were pretty dirty though, I rarely shift gear beyond 3000 rpms though. Seldom is when I floor it. I as well didn't get the car for fuel savings, but it's good to know there is things you can do and more less what the avg is.

28.2 miles per gallon on a 320 mile run with cruise control set at 70 miles per hour. Not bad!

Here is a lesson for all of you who are postponding their maintenance. (I was having around 17mpg in town).

Since it was time (astually I still had a few hundred miles) I first got my oil and filter changed (infiniti dealer had a nice deal).

Inflated my tires to perfect pressure.

Changed the oily, dirty air filters (wow they were really dirty, I should have changed earlier).

And now with a light foot I am getting a healthy

.
.
.

12MPG !!!!!! So the lesson is probably don't do the maintenance if you can cause you will lose what you have....

What? I'm guessing there must me something seriously wrong with your car if mpg dropped like that after routine maintenance.

I don't know since I can get around 27mpg on highway with cruise (even with spirited driving I see 25 mpg the highway).

But city is stupidly low.

Can people also add their average speed and maybe city only milage? Maybe my throttle body is dirty and/or something is wrong with the idle. I do not know.

You said you were getting 17 in city and then it dropped to 12mpg after maitnance. That's a big difference.
I don't understand why it would drop like that after maintenance, if any it should improve.
Did you check air filters?
Perhaps you got really messed up gasoline?

the VQ V6 has been notorious for low city mpg. this is noting new. my 2007 350z got around 14-15 city mpg. my 2013 g37x gets about 16 city mpg. the g37 is not a city car that gets good mpg especially without any current day technology. everyone complaining about mpg is just comical. if you want a fuel efficient car, buy a hybrid.

I have to admit 14-15 is stupid low for city milage.
My friend gets that driving in a city like maniac in his 2012 m3 - V8 4.0L 414hp.

Edit,
Unless you stuck in the traffic for an hour or you have lights on every block.

I have already accepted the car as it is. Although awd version getting better mpg than rwd in city is seriously messed up.

We don't expect serious gas milage from this vehicle as me and others stated earlier 12-13mpg is sth even V8's easily exceed so don't give me that "buy a hybrid " argument. You may get 28 mpg for 40 miles and when you go into a mall which is right next to the highway and you lose 3 mpgs immediately.

Of course here my issue is inflating tires, changing filters and oil causing 3mpg loss in city. Maybe it is the hills on the coastal roads of Ventura county, Santa barbara etc. .

However the car drives very smooth, accelerates nicely and handles great so I have no other complaints .

Sorry mate but I'm sort of confused about your post.
Why would you say AWD will get better milage than RWD???
It's RWD that gets 1 to 2 mpg better milage over AWD which adds serious weight to the car and that includes city milage.
I'm also trying understand how would
inflating tires, changing filters and oil causing 3mpg loss in city. It just doesn't make sense. Perhaps it's the way you are driving or there is some other factor - bad gasoline, AC is on, open windows...
I just don't see how changing air filters, changing oil and inflating tires would causing 3mpg loss in the city, if anything it should improve mpg.
