VVEL actuator motor repair

i recently bought a used G37 and shortly after buying it the VVEL actuator motor in bank 2 went bad (according to the dealership). They are saying it will cost around $1700 to repair. I've called several mechanics and some say they cannot do it. Others say that the best place to take it is the dealership. And I've found one place that says they can.

Is this repair something that should really be done at the dealership?

No. You can get one much cheaper: 2009-2015 NISSAN 370Z COUPE OEM RIGHT FRONT VVEL VARIABLE VALVE EVEN LIFT MOTOR | eBay
Replacing it is not such a big deal...

If is the solenoid, is even cheaper: OEM Timing Control Solenoid Engine Camshaft Variable Valve for Infiniti & Nissan | eBay
