Experience with a Staggered AWD setup

Merrry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

First off, i think i regret going staggered with my car. Reason being is, obvioiusly cant rotate tires... The rears of my Hankook v12 have about 4/32 left and they have 12k on them...Very dissapointing, especially when the fronts have about 7/32 left. I understand that its 95% of the time in RWD. Don't really have the money to buy a new pair of tires every season.... Reason i bought the v12s was becuase of it was the hightest rated treadlife of a summer tire that i could get 285/30/20.

Is their any tire out there that will do 20k miles? (Summer Tire)

To the OP, could it be your driving style? Jackrabbit starts, tire spinning? No tire will last long if you do this.

OP, thanks for the feedback.

I know it's a drag burning through tires. But, I'm heartened to notice that other than tire wear, you've not mentioned any other problems going staggered on the X.

I mean, isn't that the same issue any G owner with a staggered set-up would experience; RWD or AWD?

Really, does the UTQ rating mean anything when shopping for tires? I think those are rated for like 220 and the v12s were rated for 300. Partially the reason why i bought them. And alot better prices

It's a bit misleading, that number is in comparison to the entire lineup of that brand. I do know many folks have gotten at least 25k miles on the Pilot SS. And your alignment is ???

Good information, blnewt. That makes picking tires a little more simple.

For my potential 19" combo, 235/40 and 275/35, I have three choices: PSS, T1 and S-04. The Nitto and BFG aren't offered in that combo. Anyhow, the PSS come in around $1300, and the T1 and S-04 around $900. But if I'm getting a better tire and more life with the PSS, then it's a false economy to go with the T1 or S-04.

Not sure of the avg tread wear on the S-04 but those get really good reviews, also the BFG Sport Comps seem to rate well also.

im running into the same problem as OP. im runnig staggered fitment on an AWD and my rear tires were toast after 5 months. my camber was pretty heavy at -3.4 in the rear but my toe was pretty spot on. Its my fault or not going for the camber kit to get more within specs but i didnt expect the rear to wear so quickly. Might it have anything to do with the staggered fitment on the AWD that makes the rears wear that much quicker? FWIW, i was runnig about -2.2 camber in the front and those tires are still pretty much mint.

Also, what do you think about running a different brand tire in rear then in the front considering i have AWD? is it that big of a deal to mis-match front to back? currently my size set up is 245/30r20 front, 285/25r20 rears

That's a pretty small sidewall compared to the OEM diameters, but if you've been running them without issue then
You could run different tires in back, not the best plan but if they're similar in temp, traction and weight ratings they should get you by. Running a different tire type would be a big no however such as All Seasons in front and Summers in back.

I have to chuckle.

Us X sedan owners seem to have a strong need to test the AWD system by running totally non-OEM set-ups.

VR Gs, in particular, appear to be the greatest violators LOL.
