Drops, 19's, 20's Oh My!

Hey guys. So I'm just getting into the modding scene with my 2010 G37S coupe. I've been interested in getting some new rims for it and I have been doing a lot of research on different brands, styles, sizes etc. I just have a big decision to make. Do I want to go with 19 inch rims, and keep the stock ride height and keep the more comfortable driving conditions over bumps or go with some nice 20 inch rims with a drop. I live in New England and we don't have the best roads, and whichever rims I would get would only be on the car during the fall/spring/summer.

On the topic of 19's I've found some really nice brands like Volk and SSR but they are crazy expensive. I don't like the sound of the knockoffs like Varrstoen. But what about Tenzo or TSW? Are they any good?

On the topic of 20's, I like the looks of the 20's with a drop for sure. But if you want to do the drop right, I've heard that coilovers is the way to go. But with nice wheels/tires and a coilover kit, you are looking at like 4-5k dollars. New springs can provide a drop, but I haven't heard to many people using just springs to make 20's look nice with a more aggressive look.

What are your thoughts?

My G is on Volk wheels but only with a Eibach Spring drop. But in my opinion you get what you pay for. If you are gonna get rims, don't cheap out. SSR and Volk are both wonderful brands. My car rides OK on the springs but I'm planning on picking up coils Asap. If you are gonna do it, do it right ya know!!!
Happy Modding:D

I have 20" Works on my G with a Eibach drop. I love the way it rides and looks. I'd like to be a tad lower, but I'm fine with the way it sits now. I say go with a nice set of 20's. Don't cheap out on wheels. You get what you paid for. The quality of my Works is amazing. Here's a pic for reference:

That looks really nice. What eibach drop did you get?

There's only one Eibach drop. He has the ProKit drop springs.

But I think Eibach is releasing coilovers soon.

Thanks for the advice guys. The Eibach Pro kit is inexpensive compared to coilovers and it still gives a good look with the 20's. This was very helpful. Can't wait for the rims!

Some nice pica in here.

19s for performance, 20s for looks, especially with the Eibach drop.

^1. Swift is your best bet going with springs. Nice even drop and you can alway pair with koni yellow shocks later on youll be handling as good or better than most the coilover systems available. Definately agree about not cheapib out on wheels.

Does anyone have a drop with ARK grip exhaust? If so, how often do you bottom out with it?

TheGanglyGoon Oct 13, 2012 11:33 AM

There is a guy one here named Zydan who is lowered on Eibachs and has the Ark Grip. Don't think he has had any issues yet.
