Winter Tire Swapover: Tire Wear, Alignment, Pin on front wheel hubs, Hub Ring

I started swapping my wheels and tires for my winters last night. As this was my first time with the G (2008 G37s 6mt, stock), I was extra gentle but still managed to have some problems. First up is "Damn these wheels scratch easily " I was loosening my first wheel with the tire iron supplied with the car and manager to nick an area between two lug nuts. I was pretty disappointed with myself. I was planning on refinishing all four this winter anyways.

Tire Wear + Alignment:
After I got the front passenger wheel off, I noticed the inside of the rubber is pretty much worn all the way down! There I thought I would be able to run these tires for a good chunk of summer 2012. I've heard this come up a few times on the G35, so I wasn't too surprised to see it here. Anyhow, what can I do to keep this from happening again? Will regular alignments prevent this or will I just have to live with it?

Pin on front wheel or "6th Lug":
I went to put on my winter wheel and tire (18" BSA Motorsports & Blizzak LM-25 (225/50R18)), bought them used after I got the car. I spent a good 20 minutes trying to make sure it all lined up, I had read about the pin and assumed most aftermarket wheels fit over it. Nope! So some reading told me the pin was removable and was only there to prevent rear wheels from going on the front. Is this true? No other purpose?

Since all my hand tools were at my parent's place I had to put my summers back on til the weekend Wasted a ton of time and nicked my wheel.

Hub Ring:
Will I need hub rings or hub centric rings?

How many miles on the summer tires? How many miles on the car?

If in excess of 30K, I'd say it's probably a good idea to get the alignment checked out. Wouldn't want the $1000 tires you install to wear out in 10K miles or less.

Front pin. Just remove it. Serves no other function than to make sure a rear wheel doesn't get mounted to the front.

Hub rings are cheap, I'd install 'em. No idea what a hub centric wing is...

Thanks for the reply!

Not sure how many miles on stock summers, car has 75k km or 46k miles, previous owner gave me his old 19" Blizzak LM-25V, but the rears were shredded. Might get the alignment done next time I go in. Can they do this without the stock wheels being on the car?

Will remove the front pin this weekend then.

Maybe I'll call around here locally to see if I can get something tomorrow or saturday. The usual wheel and tire shop I go to is quite a ways away

I believe manual says 80 ft lbs. I set my wrench to 85ft lbs to compensate for error of the wrench. Rather be a little tight then a little loose.

Dough1397 - I tried to reply to your PM...you have blocking on.

I bought the winter tires from Bast Tire and they put them on my factory wheels. This was OK with me as I am buying some aftermarket wheels later.
Unfortunately their wheel supplier screwed up in the fact that the winter wheels they offer do not fit over the Big Brakes kit on the 2011 Sprt sedan.
I dealt with Devin. Nice guy and very helpful. I think they will try to match any other quotes you have from Canadian suppliers/stores. They gave me a good deal last year on some tires for our family vehicle.
Tell him Paul ( the guy with the G37 sport with the winter wheel mix-up) sent you. He'll remember me. We spoke often enough.
