It depends, I'm still on stock suspension and running 245/40 & 275/35 on the OEM sport wheels (they're powder coated metallic black. As for spacers I picked up 20MM for the front and 15MM for the rear.
See the pics, that was when I was test fitting the spacers

wife's 2011 19" wheel convertible needs new tires.
been doing some research
we live in Mississippi so no snow.
I was looking at some all seasons.
car has only 30k+ miles and still has factory tires
BRIDGESTONE
POTENZA RE050A
Front: 225/45R19 92W
Rear: 245/40R19 98W XL
I have been looking at the
BF Goodrich g-FORCE COMP 2 A/S Tire
or the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Tire
the bfg's are cheaper but only by about $100 a set
some reviews talk about a high road noise which I don't really want
I see a pretty good deal on DWS06 255/40R19's that I could use in the rear and put 245/40R19 on the front.
actually the rear POTENZA RE050A 245/40R19 98W XL have much more wear left on them and I could just put these on the front.
these are W rated while the DWS06 are Y and tire rack told me it might be better not the have 2 different ratings? any truth?
I would really rather buy a set of 2 for now as the rear probably have at least another 10k left on them.
I would like to try to keep the gas mileage about the same
I was also looking at going to up size and see that
Front: 245/40R19
Rear: 275/35R19
are the most common replacements.
I DO WANT TO ADD SPACERS
This is for the wife so although I might like the look of the wider tires, I don't want to make it harder to steer or drive.
Any suggestions?
Anybody runs these brands (they are fairly new replacing older series w close to the same name) ?
Anybody done the upsize and can tell me what they think?
Also since we are in the back woods state, I was looking at ordering on line.
tire buyer has best price, but reviews are either 1's or 5's
amazon is close to tire rack, gut tire rack offers free road hazard which may make them the most logical choice
fyi for those looking, most offer cash back sites like ebates to save 4 - 6%
thanks.

If you're running Summer tires now please don't put a pair of All Seasons on the back, not a safe condition. If you want to only buy two tires now and you live in a place where you can run Summers year 'round I'd look for a pair of Summers in the size you want, then get the other pair when the time comes. Some tires getting good reviews would be the Bridgestone SO-4 Pole Position, BFG SportComp2, Conti DW, and the gold standard Michelin Pilot Super SPort. For the price those SO-4s are hard to beat.
If you feel that you'll really need all seasons I would get a complete set of 4.

I see alot of ppl are going 245 on the front and 265 or 275 on the rear.
My question is about different tire profile as i live with bumpy roads and have a bad back.
Instead of going 245 with a 40 series profile, I would want to go a 45 profile on the front.
With the rears instead of going 35 series on the 265, I would want to go a 40 profile.
Yes, i know my speedo will be out (doesn't bother me) but will the looser tire sidewall have any probs with hard cornering ?
thanks

Should be ok in that regard, if you have a RWD it would be less chance of problems vs AWD.
If you are running a softer sidewall touring tire or higher mileage All Season tire the sidewall flex might not be to your liking, but a higher rated summer tire shouldn't be a problem there.

G37xs
I read through this thread and I would like some input if anyone can help. I have a 2013 coupe xs so its all wheel drive with the 19 inch wheels and I am going to need new tire soon. I want to go a little wider but I also want to keep the same tire size front and rear. I don't want to alter the way the car drives too much and I do not want to ruin my mpg. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

FWIW the 245/45 is about 3/4" taller (about 2.5%) than your 225/45.

G37 coupe Sport 2011
Need some input on tires and sizing:
I have a 2011 G37 Coupe Sport with offset tires as purchased from Infiniti. Looking at getting same size but increasing rear if possible:
2 G-Max AS-05 Front: 225/45ZR19
2 G-Max AS-05 Rear: 245/40ZR19
OTD would be $720
Would my car be able to use a slighty wider tire:
2 G-Max AS-05 Rear: 255/40ZR19
If so the OTD price would be $746.
Let me know your thoughts, also if General tires have been used by any of you. Prior tires have been OED Michelin Pilot and currently Hankook Ventus V12 evo2.
Thanks in advance.
