Damn!! GT-30's are hard to take apart!!!
I unscrewed all the screws and it seems virtually impossible to take off the face of the wheel!!! Haha, I almost broke my hand off trying to take the first wheel off, now need to do the front wheel which doesn't budge when I tug on it!:icon11:
Here's a picture of the progress at least.... lol (On the plus side... it's VERY easy to clean the lips this way!!:D) http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/a...0326111531.jpg http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/a...326111531a.jpg http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/a...326111531b.jpg ...meh it's progress:7: |
Cant see the pics... stupid work computer!
Thanks for the update man. Good luck, hope everything goes smoothly. |

It's pretty annoying how some wheel companies keep torque and offset numbers a secret. OP, why are you taking them apart? |

Good job... Keep at it! Did you find that thread I told you to look for? |
My old 3 piece HRE were 35 ft-lbs per bolt. I dont know if that helps you at all.
|
BE CAREFUL torquing them back.
& u make sure u use some lock-tite when re-assembling. I snapped a couple bolts and since you cannot order these bolts i had to improvise... IIRC ~ 13lbs should be enough for those small bolts. GL & post up some finished pics. Btw what are you doing to them? |
Very nice, keep us updated! So the correct amount to torque them back to would be around 13lbs with some loctite? Just wanted to make sure in case I want do anything with my GT30s in the future

For all those who asked why he's doing this:
The powder coat guy who resprayed the barrels f@cked up big time and reassembled his rear wheel face on the front barrel and vice versa.. Due to that mistake it messed up the offsets so he was not able to clear his Akebono brakes. He is trying to get his offsets back to 35/37 like theyre supposed to be. |
Well look at Kev...mr.know everything! Lol. That sucks, GL man

No wonder, good to hear OP got his stuff straightened out. Those wheels should clear the Akebonos no problem. I just swapped from non-sport brakes to sport brakes and they clear just fine.
That's definitely a big f*ckup by his powdercoater. |
post pics of the powder coating, interested to see how it looks.

Hey Johnny, if this goes well for you. I'll probably take mine apart too and get a refresh on the phantoms. |

LoL! Yeah, poor guy had a thread about it and every possible suggestions were given to him. From changing the rotors to changing the wheels.

I would just get it powdercoated, but idk lol haha cause you see the situation I'm in hahaha. Tomie - I'm going to torque it at around 20lb/ft I think, because alshubcaps (reputable on g35nyc.com) torqued them at 30lbs/ft. So, maybe 25 might even be OK . Hey Kev, thanks for clearing it up for me!! Lol... I was at work all day couldn't respond :D . Hopefully the project is done today so I can finally drive this damn car!!!!!! I've been driving my stupid sisters mazda 3 :icon27::icon27::7::7: |
