Refinished stock Enkei 19's
5 Attachment(s)
Ok guys I decided to refinish my stock 19's for two reasons. 1. my wife won't let me spend $4k on wheels/ tires like some of you ballers out there. :bowrofl: and 2. I have a refinishing background and manage a collision shop, so my out-of-pocket cost is minimal. Here are the pics from beginning to end. I tried to capture what the color actually looks like up close, so let me know what you think. Thanks guys, I will also be starting another thread regarding some of your opinions about a few other "refinsish projects". Enjoy
.......PS- I know Raul is the "picture-blow-up guy" so if I can't figure out how to attach large pics, maybe he'll help me out. Got the winter wheel setup on, Chicago, so this is as good as I can get with "mounted" pic |

Here are some more pics
Hard to show detail, with limited size of pics available |
What color are they? Almost looks like some sort of pearl black in some pics, but gunmetal in others? What process did you use to do it?

They're a dark charcoal metallic/pearl. Sanded them down, shot sealer (it's like a primer just thinner), automotive basecoat, then automotive clearcoat. Same steps as I would painting a car

wow...they look freaking awesome. This is something i would definitely want my rims to look like...so clean =)
wish you were closer.. |

haha, thanks guys! Truth be told, if I was going to pay to have them done, I would've went with powdercoating becasue when refinishing, as I did, the prepping is the most time consuming and the most important. There are a lot of nooks and crannies to address and if they're not prepped (sanded and cleaned) properly, there can be an adhesion problem. Powdercoating uses opposite polarites for the powder and wheel, so the powder gets attracted by electricity, making it easier for all the nooks and crannies. I just didn't want to pay for something that I could accomplish myself using the exact color I wanted.

If you were going to do this for someone else and have them pay, about how much would you charge? I'm looking to PC my stockies a similar color and am looking for a decent price range to negotiate off of.

Looks like real quality work! A little dark for my taste, I would prefer more of a gunmetal gray pearl look... But I bet it looks better in person and black probably fits a red G better than gunmetal. Nice job!
