Went from 305's to 285's and now I rub

Well I went from 305/25/20's to 285/30/20 earlier today and now I rub on bumps. It's the slight difference between the 30 on the 285's and 25 on the 305, the aspect ratio of the tire being slightly taller. Seems to be worse on the passenger side even without a passenger. My tires are literally right on the fender liner (as close as you can get without touching) and fender liner seems to be flopping around under there, wonder if that's how they are and I never noticed it before?? With the 285's and the tein s-techs I can't even fit a finger in between the tire and wheel well, with the 305's I could, I mean now there is no gap at all, nothing, maybe a credit card would fit, LOL. Looks pretty damn sick, now I just gotta figure out how to rub less, haha.

This is why when people post stuff like, "I'm getting 10.5 rims with 37 offset and a 275 or 285 tire will I rub?" it's impossible to say without knowing what you're dropped on or planning to be dropped on. I'm running Vossen 085's with 10.5 rears with a 45 offset which by most all standards would be considered very conservative, but due to my drop I'm still rubbing with that "conservative" setup. I wanted to go a bit more aggressive and was told I could possibly squeeze a 5MM spacer into the rears, but it would have been very close so they suggested I stay without the spacer. Now I'm glad I decided to hold off for now, as I'm right on the cusp of the wheel well edge, I don't know how any of you guys/gals run 10.5 with 285's and a low to mid 30 offset, I guess you need a very conservative drop to pull that off??

are you running any camber?

Yeah, I got the SPC front and rear camber kits and my rear camber from my alignment was -1.6 left and -1.5 right.

Just trim Liner like I did now mine is perfect!

Buddy Revell Jan 13, 2010 11:40 PM

I'm fine with 285s and a conservative drop on Eibachs.

VONYC Jan 14, 2010 12:54 AM

Danm Steve sorry to hear that =\ there is a difference between 25 and 30 ..

Hey if I'm dropped on eibachs and the rear has +30 offset will I rub on 285s ?

285/30/20 is perfect just trim inner liner and get aligned! I was told by autoglitz that it also depends on tires you run... Different brands I mean

Yeah, some tires have a more square sidewall, and others are more rounded.

VossenG37S Jan 14, 2010 02:06 AM

My falkens where rounded , Hankook V12s are more square (bulkier).

VossenG37S Jan 14, 2010 02:08 AM

Everything is fine though , I originaly wanted 285/25/20 but autoglitz did not recomend that size.

Buddy Revell Jan 14, 2010 02:09 AM

Yeah, Toyo and Falken sidewalls are a bit rounded compared to, say Nittos.

Did you do this yourself, and if so how and what exactly did you do? Are you talking about the bumper/fender bracket that everyone is talking about?? I think that may be what I'm rubbing into on bumps?

I went from Pirelli to Hankook so maybe that is part of the problem?

Yeah, I thought it was just the 285's being a 30 rather than a 25, but I'm sure the squareness of the Hankooks is also contributing to my rubbing.

Pics would be great, so you were rubbing on the liner the entire time not just on bumps right? I'm rubbing something that is loud when I hit a bump of a dip on the highway, assuming it's this bumper bracket everyone talks of??
