Lightbulb I'd like feedback from forum vendors

I have an idea and I wonder if this is feasible. Only our forum vendors can answer that question, so here it is.

Say I'm looking for a certain part. For example a set of KW V3 coilovers. There are a number of vendors here on the forum who carry them. If I want to know who has them available and the price, typically I would PM each vendor that I know carries them and that I want to consider purchasing from and ask for price and availability. I have never had personal dealings with some of the vendors, so I may not contact them due to being unfamiliar with them. There may be some that I'm simply unaware of that carry them.

My question is this: Is is feasible to have a sub forum specifically for member requests for pricing and availability of a part that all vendors could respond to? In my example, I'd create a thread with the name of the part I'm looking for and my shipping zip code in the thread title, "KW V3 coliovers shipped to 77523". Any vendor that chooses to can respond via PM and tell me if they have them available to ship (or when they expect to if they are back ordered) and thier best price including shipping and tax if applicable.

My thoughts on the benefit of this? It may give vendors that I'm not really familiar with a chance at my business based on how quickly they reply, or their price, or that they have them in stock when nobody else does, or any number of other reasons. It may open up new business for vendors that I may not have considered before. It may foster a bit of competition in the areas of price and service that might have everyone trying to up their game. It may encourage vendors to check our forum more frequently so as to be one of the first to respond and be considered. It is one concentrated place to see what every member wants to buy when you log into the forum. It may show you what members really want more of and what they don't want to buy to help you stock inventory that will move and not sit.

Pricing need not be posted publicly in the thread so as to avoid one vendor trying to undercut the next by a few bucks. Simply send a PM to the member with the info they are requesting.

Forum vendors - What do you think? Good idea? Crappy idea?

Discuss.

I'm cool with that. Working via pm is best as prices change as the thread ages.

Great ideas guys, keep the opinions coming. Thanks.

adamsrotors, I completely understand where you are coming from. You are a little bit unique in that you offer only one product and it is your own creation. However, if I'm looking for rotors, I may post up that I need fronts or rears, or all 4 and you could hit me up with what you have just like vendor A might PM me with an offer for DBA, or Stop Tech or whatever rotors they carry. Maybe link them to your website page? Just suggestions.

Sounds like a solid idea. Basically just a WTB section for members to vendors.

Sounds good with me. a few forums have WTB sections set up the same way. Its used sparingly compared to the regular vendor threads, but it does get used.

I noticed that too on another forum (my350z). I wonder why that is? Anybody know why? Are vendors just not very responsive to it? some other reason I'm missing as to why it wouldn't be utilized more? I don't want to reinvent the wheel or start something that isn't of any use.

Works for us! In my experience on other forums that have this, it does not get used much.
