Fall Colors 2018 NW IL/Galena/IA Cruise

It's that time of the year. Nice weekends are in limited supply.

Date: Sunday 10/21/2018
Meet time: 7:15am, on the road by 7:30am
Meet location : Road Ranger off of 90/20 - https://goo.gl/maps/z3jp1SHtay82
Total distance: ~400-500 miles roundtrip (welcome to split off any time)

*Please park in the area in red - https://i.imgur.com/QP1nSW3.jpg

Pace: Slow in the straights, somewhat spirited in the corners.
Lunch: Red Robin in in Dubuque

Requirements: Be fueled (both you and car) and ready to go. On the road by 0730.

We'll go through some favorite roads getting up to and around Galena. I'd like to mix it up this year by coming back through IA/WI (near Prairie du Chien). We'll cruise along the great river road too (IA c9y). Route to the lunch spot is done, 2nd half coming back through IA/WI is still in progress. I have a bunch of routes for the area from my mcy days.

If anyone has a garmin which can do custom routes and wants to lead at a faster pace, I'm all in. Much easier to follow

Who's in?

Route is mostly done. Comes out to ~525 miles door to door for me.
Given the length, I want to be on the road by 0730. Please arrive at the meet spot by 0715.

Route concludes around Madison. Our last stop as a group will be here . 39/90 Isn't too far away if you're heading back into Chicago.

If you're coming please post up or PM. We'll only wait til 0730.

This cruise is amazing for being so close to Chicago. I will see you there, Jay!

Price of admission is a few hours of boring roads to get to the good stuff. Early start to get in as much daylight as possible. In years past I've ridden all over SW WI and NE IA. Some really technical stuff (for midwest) and great scenery. Temps for Sunday are mid to upper 40's depending where you look.

I think I got all the road closures taken care of so hopefully no surprises.

Note; stops are about every hour to hour and a half. All stops except lunch are at gas stations.

This is still a go. I may check the site once more tonight, but otherwise won't have access to it until return tomorrow evening. If you're going to show, please be on time.

Thanks!

Great cruise. Small group made keeping everyone together easy. The weather started chilly but warmed up eventually to ~upper 40's. Michelin PSS did very well in the cool. Wasn't hauling @ss like when it's 80F but wasn't gramma driving either through the corners I'll post some pics and clips later.

@flashguy, Did something happen? Tried texting and calling.

Most trips include some obscure passages. Here's the favorite from this one. Speeds were ~35-50 mph. For best results, change quality to 1080p (~800mb).

That pic was in iowa, just north of dubuque. I know the road well. Been on it more times than I can remember on two wheels.

2019 Plan?

I'm new to the group and picked up a 2010 G37 liquid platinum vert. I'd like to be part of a 2019 drive whenever that may occur. I live in La Crosse Wisconsin and want to start making connections.

Thanks,

keith

I'm hoping to do another one some time in late April when it warms up. The closest we'll be to La Crosse is Prairie Du Chien, unless you want to join us for lunch in Dubuque.

I'd join sooner and probably peel off in Prairie. I look forward to details. I'm very excited to join up with the group.

Drop me a line when you see the new thread go up. We'll figure out a place. Map in post #2 is accurate. Route is done in clockwise manner.
