So who's G is at AEM in Hawthorne?

I was droping off my GTI for some test fitment for the CAI.(just got informed they can not fabricate one, funny to hear that from a company that creates intakes)So someone's white G37 was there with the intakes installed!Looked awesome!I did have some concerns about it doe.It was all the way in the front of the radiator just behind the Grill.
The Filters had some kinda sleeves on them which should prevent water from entering, however i don't know how much water they can push away.So who's G is it??

White,
Non Sport
Black Overlays
Dropped
Amplified MS stickers on the back.

they did it like stillens...hmm...those are water sleeves...they actually work well...keeps the filters from sucking up water unless tehy are submerged...taht might be a better idea then my stillen rain guards...i might buy em anyways..hmmm

Serbiasrt8 Feb 5, 2009 06:25 PM

I don't know.
Unless people can show me some good research videos of how the sleeves will reject water being splashed directly on them,i would have my concerns.

I installed the Gen 3 Stillens with the rain guard with no concerns at all. There is a splash guard under the car, and a shield in front. You'd have to have the car in 2 feet of water for issues.

If that happens, you have bigger problems...

why didn't you take a pic?!?!?!

Cool. I wonder if there will be issues with similar designs to Stillen's intake.

Everything that is going on in there is top secret :) at least that is what they think of it...
Your Car does notneed to be submerged in water in order for your intakes to suck on water.Keep in mind these were just behind your Grill!Just behind it!Now imagine it is raining the way it is right now in LA and you are driving on the Freeway at 65mph,in front of you there's a truck that just drove trough a huge puddle and is aquaplaning, all the water gets thrown on your car(the front of your car)I would be concerned!

Its still not enough. The water that gets thrown at the car is ONLY enough to get through the (slanted mind you) grill. It then needs to travel 6 inches and hit the rain guard. Once it hits the rain guard, it needs to shoot up and hit the hood, travel backwards hit the intakes and then all of it needs to go into the engine.

Or it could take the opposite route and shoot down, hit the splash panel, bounce back up 14 inches and hit the rain guard.

Im obviously being a little tongue in cheek. Im sure there is a little more danger, but I wouldnt lose sleep about it!

Reminds me of that Seinfield episode where Kramer gets spit on by a professional baseball player.... LOLOL

I mean am I wrong here? I have had CAI on all of my cars and never had a problem. I even had one on a silverado that was 18 inches from the ground with NO splash guard. I lived in snow and sleet and never had an issue.

Now everyone has me doubting the safety! :/

Haha

Hey...
You're riding a Duc.
You're good in my Book! ;)

Ducati Feb 5, 2009 07:21 PM

Im actually half way serious here. Has anyone had issues with it. I looked at the after setup and thought "No way enough water gets on the element to clog it and get it to suck in water". Now I am second guessing it...
