Charlotte, NC - Help with Coilover Install
Like the title says, I need some assistance. I bought the Tein Street Basis Z coilovers and though I've done suspension work before, this is a bit more involved and on a different type of vehicle.
Wondering if anyone in Charlotte of close by would be willing to assist. I can provide pizza and/or wings and beer. Even willing to come to you if you have tools. My tool collection is not extensive, but I generally have enough. I have a small compressor but no air tools. I want to get this done, let them settle and get an alignment before I buy tires for my new wheels. All of this needs to be soon or I'll have to buy more factory size tires and I don't want to do that. Oh and if you've wrapped your window trim and want to help with that I'm there too:BOUNCE: |
I'd help, but I don't have a free weekend until mid June.
Good luck, install should be straight forward, but I say that having only done springs/shocks on my G. |
Yeah, I believe I have to use the factory tophats for the Street Basis. Maybe it's just the one bolt that is causing concern then... Thanks anyway Lego

I'm guessing your car is a dd? Do you have a spring compressor?
If the car is from OH, you might need air tools.. How big is your air compressor? If it's a southern car, then you should be ok without air. Where are you located? Even being in charlotte, you might be an hour+ from some of us. Also, I haven't done any suspension work on a G myself, so I'd only help as muscle, really. Better read up on multiple how-tos :D |

I'm not too far from you - 39 x 485.
How long can you go without the car? I've seen a lot of suspension installs (not specific to Gs) and they NEVER go as planned. A lot of times it takes 2+ days. |

You'll need a spring compressor to disassemble the fronts to get the top hats. IDK about the Basis, but I didn't need a spring compressor to reassemble the Swifts with the shcoks :dunno: Rear is easy, no spring compressor needed. Getting the lower bolts off is the most difficult. But you can always use an box/open end wrench (6 point is best) and put a hydraulic jack under the open end and jack it up to break the bolt free. |

Off topic, but I had an E46 before the G. What year is yours? Are you a member of E46fanatics?

Yeah, I thought I would stay with a Euro, but wanted something a little more reliable. Although, I loved my 2002 325i and it had 212k+ miles on it when I got rid of it. IMO the E46 is one of the more reliable BMWs.

This is my 1st. I've had 3 e30s: Coupe, saloon, vert
