Tail of the Dragon Road Trip

My Fellow South FL G's owners
I would like to gauge the level of interest to do a two day road trip to drive the Tail of the Dragon (TOD)loop. Below are my initial thoughts and are no way set in stone. Again just trying to gauge who would be interested:

Sometime in August (possibly last week)
Day One
Leave south FL for Atlanta, GA
Hang out (and spend night) in Atlanta (or surrounding area, possibly link w/local Atlanta G's)

Day Two
After a good night rest head out to Walhalla, SC then
Walhalla, SC to ToD via US-28 (Moonshiner 28)
Drive ToD twice once in each direction
Drive back to Florida

Tail of the Dragon and Moonshiners 28 is for the drivers to drive (not sightseeing). The scenery will be for your passenger (if applicable)

By last weekend in August do you mean Labor day weekend or the one before? Just FYI, Labor day weekend is crazy in Atlanta between the conventions and events that are typically happening.

That said, subbed to see how this turns out. If free I would love to meet up with fellow G's riding up.

All those fancy roads are best driven during the week. Lots of tourists on weekend and rolling road blocks.

+1. Dragon is stupid busy on the weekends. It's a cool one-time experience, but otherwise there are plenty of better roads in the smokies.

Post your routes afterwards. I intend to run TotD in the fall or next year and while I have a tentative route in mind, your routes and experience would be nice to see.

Another thing that's kind of annoying about the dragon is getting there from S / SE / E. This is subjective, of course, but you have to go over the whole ridge just to get to the dragon.. and then you have to drive all the way back. All the roads zig-zag around the mountains so it takes forever to get there; there is so much "whoa sweet road" and "it's so green here!" I can do in one day.

Believe it or not, Little Switzerland (near the devil's whip) is actually an hour closer (at least from Jacksonville area).
I have no vested interest with that place, just want to make sure people are aware that the dragon is not the only fun road around the smokies.

In case anyone still reads this, roads were awesome! The whole diamondback. We had a blast and the car handled beautifully.
