The two engine air filters on my 2010 G37 Convertible are easy to change, but expensive to buy from the Infiniti parts department. The service manager says to only use their filters because they have oil on the filter element which traps more crud than the dry aftermarket filters that cost a fraction of the price at the local parts store. Opinions?

The filters you reference on eBay aren't oiled and are made in Taiwan according to label on the Nissan box they come in. Not sure if the OEM ones from Infiniti are made in Japan or elsewhere.

don't trust anything that guy says.

i replaced mine with R2C Black Hex "dry" drop-in filters.
"oiled" filters (K&N, etc.) do NOT filter as well, and can foul the MAF sensor if over-oiled.

Not trying to be argumentative, but my Infiniti dealership service manager says they are lightly oiled and not to use aftermarket because they're not and will ruin the MAF, the ones I pulled from my G37 convertible yesterday are, and the ones I checked in the Q60 coupe loaner from the dealer last week were.

I may make a trip to the dealer's parts department to see what their $25 filters look like. Nissan filters are available on eBay and Amazon for less, but are they OEM or knock-offs?

Why don't you just buy K&N air filters and call it a day? Drop those suckers in and you can clean and oil them every 25- 30k miles?

Probably a good idea. I have K&Ns on my air cooled Porsche, but the older I get, the less pleasure I get from cleaning and re-oiling them. Drop in throw away filters seem an easier solution at this point which is why I was curious about the opinions of others on what they do with their Infinitis.

Afe are good reusable drop ins and and are dry not oiled. Clean in water.. let air dry.. call it a day!

I got OEM filters from e-bay 2 times for my sedan and my convertible.
They were IDENTICAL with the filters that the filters that came from the factory and the filters that dealer installed on my Infiniti's.

So you can use the e-bay OEM filters. WAY cheaper than the dealer option.

AFE or R2C dry drop-in filters are excellent OEM replacements and can be cleaned via vacuum or dry filter cleaner every so often. I'd recommend them over K&N as UOAs have shown they filter dirt better.

I just tossed R2C panels in. They look nice. I don't know if they made the car any faster, but with the miles I drive I'd be replacing disposable filters twice a year.
