For Sale threads showing "SOLD" when not sold
This keeps happening to my threads, and it appears other members as well.
BlackBetty doesn't know why it's happening. Any other mods or admins want to chime in? I'm sure others want to know. |
Us mere mods don't know. BB will have to enlist the backend admin to look into this.
|
I’ve looked at it multiple times and can’t find a clue. Checked to see if one of the staff was maybe monkeying around. Nope. Nothing.
What other members are having it happen? I’m not aware of that. Maybe we can find a pattern to help figure out what’s going on. |
I see a lot of threads with 0 replies but they are closed.
Maybe the parts sold off this site and are being requested to close. I just figured they are being locked and not sold. |
Can you point to specific examples?
|
These all have 0 or 1 replies and are "Sold" locked.
Again, maybe these members PM'd to lock the thread cause they sold elsewhere, but if not, it appears they are experiencing the same issue as I am. I sure don't know what to say. For the nonce, if any of those ads interest you, contact the OP.
Thanks for providing those examples. |
I'm not sure what you mean. I am not interested in those ads. I am interested in selling my car parts.
|
None of those ads were yours. Are you worried the same will happen to you? A lot of ads aren't affected. We can't tell you why the board does this. All I can offer is to create your ad(s) and monitor them for unexpected closure.
|
I have been doing that....hence already reaching out to BlackBetty and starting this thread. Monitoring is not going to do anything.
|
unc0808 is right. the exact thing is happening to me. Wheel/tire combo I had up was auto closed on two occasions. Phone I have for sale auto closed as well.

This has to bucked above black betty to our site admin.

A question for both of you whose classified ad has closed on its own: did you have a paid classified subscription when you posted the ad or were you members who were qualified to post here without paying? I’m trying to figure out any reason that I’m not aware of as
to why this might happen automatically without staff intervention. I’ve been around here over 10 years and this has never occurred until now that I’m aware of. Frankly I’m stumped. Until we can get someone higher up than me to figure it out and solve it, the best I can suggest is to report the thread anytime it closes and one of us will open it back up as quickly as we can. Unfortunately that’s all that I know to do at this point. My apologies. |

Unfortunately that’s all that I know to do at this point. My apologies. I basically waited my time, sent out enough posts to qualify to post in the black market. I actually was a long time member here on another user name but forgot my user/password after I sold my car in 2016 so I started a new username. I was active on G35 Driver, a long time member of Acurazine and many other car forums so I'm definitely not new to the car community. |
I'm a long time member who is qualified to post without paying.

its been like that since i posted in the for sale forum 2 years ago.. i just ignore it i got tired of having to check and click unsold

OK, so I’ve got a solution to this issue and it makes perfect sense now. Here’s what’s happening:
If a seller posts a FS thread in Private Classifieds and it has no activity for more than 30 days, the thread auto closed and marks the thread as sold. If anyone posts in the thread (including the thread poster) it doesn’t close. So if you’re selling something in classifieds, if there’s no activity in your thread for 30 days, bump your thread to keep it open and active. Otherwise it will be seen as dormant and it will be closed and marked sold. If you want it reopened, PM a staff member and we will reopen it. Or keep it active and it won’t auto close. Problem solved. |
can it be changed to say closed instead of sold?
|
Hey all,
Apologies for the technical issues going on with listings in the marketplace. It looks like the time limit for for sale listings only started working recently and decided to mark a couple of current listings as sold. :dunno: I went ahead and extended the time limit so this should stop happening for any listings posted currently. This should do the trick  Feel free to update me if you notice that this issue occurs again for listings posted after today. Thanks! |

Site devs recently found out that a routine that checks for stale ads (older than 30 days) had not worked then suddenly did. It was this sudden start that caught some fresh ads. Stale parameter has been lengthened but I don't know what it is. Maybe 45 days?
|
Glad that it is a-okay now!
IB Jason and I decided to lengthen it to 120 days to fix the threads being marked "sold" when not sold. Let me know if there are issues with this parameter. |
