Custom Black Chrome Grill - forget the ole midnight grill kids!
Ok, I like to have a unique G, especially when I'm pouring thousands of dollars and time into it especially for future car show contests. I never liked the midnight grill because the paint was metallic and not standard black. But the idea is great and instead of painting it Black, I decided to go with Black Chrome. Duplicolor makes great paint products for our cars and I have had excellent results with their products. So I decided to try and use there black chrome product Shadow for my project. Of course you need some experience with spray painting before you take this on. Reason is, you only get one chance at this. Its not paint where you can sand it down and re-do it again. Its a clear base coat and you only have one shot at getting it right. So you could practice on some chrome pieces if you have any you can do so on.
Let me add that the final touch is finger wet-sanding with 2,000, and polishing it out with Meguiars Ultimate Compound. I also did 4 coats and not 3( 3 will get you the look of the stock G37 Black Chrome lights). The Results blows the midnight grill out the door! The color changes in lighting and reflections to black chrome(like a black pearl almost), and where no lighting or reflections it is black. See my pics below some are angles and some in darker lighting.
To have it done by a shop professionally and wet-sanded is about $300-$400.00 dollars. I did this for $25.00 bucks. Total time to do was about 6 hours. I'll have a HD Video DIY on this in coming weeks. THe HD video shows it off better, I recommend any locals check it out in person! You'll want this MOD after! The pictures here really don't do it justice!

Thanks Bro! Yeah I almost did mine solid black but remembered that Duplicolor came out with Shadow since Black chrome is really getting popular. Whats pretty amazing about it is the reflections like morph it from black to black chrome and back. It changes with angles constantly. My friends all want me to do there cars now lol!

Haha! Well guys you could always do a trade with cash for a stock grill and paint it yourself if you have some experience with spray painting. I'll have a DIY up on it soon. Pics really don't do justice. The HD video I'll be posting later this week or next will, or seeing it in person will make your jaw drop, its not that it Black Chrome, its how it looks on the grill on this car that really is bad ***.
Just a note to all, if you think that canned spray paint can not look as good as a pro body shop paint job, think again! Many have said my work looks powder coated. The trick is prep over paint, but main trick is lots of clear coat and wet-sanding the clear coat to glass Then the Black Chrome just looks out of control!
