List of Skyline Generations. Those with GTR variants will have (GTR) next to them.

Tama Electric car & Prince Sedan: Overall Predecessors of the Skyline.

Original NCP* Skyline & GTR Variant Lineage, including the 2 ACP** GTRs
1. Prince Skyline ALSID-1/ALSID-2/BLRA-3
2. S50/S54/S57
3. C10 (Hakosuka GTR)
4. C110 (Kenmeri GTR)
5. C210
6. R30
7. R31 (GTS-R)>The only GTS-R in Skyline history. a carbureted GT with a larger single turbo
8. R32 (GTR)
9. R33 (GTR)
10. R34 (GTR)
11. V35/G35 (GTR, ACP)
12. V36/G37/Q60/370GT (V36 370GT GTR, ACP); (V36 GTR) >2 distinct GTRs in this Generation
13. V37 (Eau Rogue GTR)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ACP Skyline & GTR Variant Offshoots

1. R35 (GTR)
2. R36 (GTR)

1 & 2 are ACP Skyline & GTR Variant Offshoots, they are entitled to their own generation of Skyline due to their uniqueness amongst the other generations, ie changing from one series of Skyline engine to another (going from V series to R series engines).

As discussed before the R35 GTR is a 35 chassis code skyline w/ a twin turbo charged RB class engine. The R36 GTR is a 36 chassis code skyline with a twin turbo charged RB class engine.

Originally these chassis codes had VQ class engines, hence originally V35 (G35) and V36 (G37), but swapping out the engine series should change the nomenclature of the car, just as the R34 became the V35 once VQ engines replaced RB engines in the Skylines.

You can search out the last 2 Gens on google by typing G35 with RB, or G37 with RB, etc.

Grand Total of 15 Skyline Generations, 11 GT-R Variants, and 1 GTS-R. Not to mention the GTTs, GTSTs, GTSs, and GTs.

*Nissan Company Produced **Aftermarket Customer Produced

VERY informative thread! Thanks a bunch. I have wondered from time to time where the names and badges come from. It's an interesting lineage for sure. Now if I could only figure out a way for that coveted GTR to be sitting in MY garage!

I just made changes to the Generations List regarding the ACP Skyline Offshoots and respective GTRs as appropriate, so they are distinct from the original Skyline Lineage.

13th Generation Skyline: V37 Eau Rogue GTR (Q50 Eau Rogue).

Going ahead it seems Nissan is now badging Skyline coupes as Q60s and Skyline sedans as Q50s. The first GTR by Nissan to be badged INFINITI. Not sure if they will even add a GTR badge to the car even though it is in fact a V37 Skyline with GTR drivetrain. maybe Nissan will keep GTR labeling separate from INFINITI badging altogether.

But that is why we have the aftermarket. OEM GTR badges are available, and if Nissan decides to ditch the badging, customers can do it themselves. After the R34 GTR, Nissan did not twin turbo charge the V35 350GT(G35) and V36 370GT(G37) Skylines, although the Nissan V36 GTR was the eventual developmental and evolutionary peak of these V series Skylines, it would have been just as exciting if Nissan applied forced induction to these cars as well, and not just the V36 GTR.

And again that is why we have the aftermarket, where Nissan failed to enhance the VQ in these cars, the customers did, and through reverse engineering, third party tuners like GTM, High End Performance(for the Rocha G37), and others have safely twin turbo charged these vehicles giving them the coveted GTR status that Nissan was not willing to do for the G35 and G37 for whatever reason and just kept them at GT level. Unlike the Q50 (V37) that Nissan is now endowing with Nissan company trim GTR enhancements.

thus its safe to say that the GTR and GTT versions of the V35 and V36 370GT has rested solely on the customer and third party tuners, and its fair to say that this partnership has produced impressive outputs from the VQ class even though it was not meant for forced induction unlike its successor the VR.

11th Generation Skyline: V35 (G35/350GT) GT, GTT, GTR

A collection of 11th Gen skylines cruising the bay and northern california.

V35 GTR vs Viper SRT-10, ie 2009 Viper Coupe (547whp - Stock) vs G35 Coupe Twin Turbo 6-speed 620whp

single turbo V35 GTT; one of many third party tuners going where Nissan wasn't willing to with the V35 350GT [G35].

V35 GTR vs V36 GTR (G35 on left and on inset); 2nd round G35 GTR vs Corvette (GTR on right); 3rd round solo run. impressive output from an engine that Nissan didn't focus for forced induction intake.

G35 GTR or GTT (unspecified) vs WRX. this is pitting a rear wheel drive against an all wheel drive in the WRX.

Unknown whether a V35 GTR or GTT (not specified in uploader's description, just states "+turbo") vs a C6 Corvette.

V35 GTR sedan.

V35 350GT GTR or GTT (VQ class) vs V36 GTR (VR class); remember that Nissan trim VR class (R35) has stock ATTESA AWD while Nissan trim VQ class (G35) has stock RWD.

G35 GTR, SP tuned.

Drawing comparisons amongst the V Skylines:

G35, G37: VQ>>>>V36 GTR: VR

Q50: VQ>>>>>>Q50 Eau Rogue GTR: VR

all V skylines have progressed from a VQ to a VR in their respective Nissan produced GTRs.

V Skylines have 2 classes of GTR: VQ class GTR (twin turbo VQ) and a VR class GTR (twin turbo VR).

Below discusses nomenclature of the stock vehicles and what the car would be called if we added or took away turbos depending on which car we are modifying. The V36 370GT is a VQ and has no turbo at stock; the V36 GTR is a VR and has twin turbo at stock.

(stock) V36 370GT>>add single turbo: V36 370GT GTT>>>>add twin turbo: V36 370GT GTR.

(stock) V36 GTR>> remove 1 turbo: V36 GTT>>>>>>>remove both turbo: V36 GT.

Therefore, if you took out the turbos in the GTR, it wouldn't be a GTR anymore; and inversely if you added turbos to a GT, it wouldn't be a GT anymore. As exemplified earlier using the twin turbo R34 GTR coupe and its sedan counterpart, the naturally aspirated R34 25GT.

12th Generation Skyline: V36 GTR, the evolutionary pinnacle of the G35 (V35) and G37 (V36) V series Skylines. we all know its impossible to go from R34 to this latest GTR in one sudden jump, with all the design and engine inconsistencies. it therefore makes sense that the G35 and G37 serve as waypoints to get to this GTR, the V36 GTR, going from 3.5, 3.7 VQ V6 to a 3.8 twin turbo VR V6.

AMS tuned V36 GTR.

NOTE: both the g37 and the V36 GTR fall under the V36 Skyline Generation due to overall similarity to each other compared to the rest of the Skyline family. And it can not claim itself as a V37 as that Generation has already been carved out by the Q50 Skyline.

If both V36s are GTR it's best to differentiate them by using either V36 370GT GTR, V36 G37 GTR, or V36 Q60 GTR. Thus creating clarity for the identification of the Nissan produced V36 GTR.

V36 370GT GTR/ V36 G37 GTR/ V36 Q60 GTR.

2014 Nismo tuned V36 GTR & 2014 V36 GTR
