Insurance hike due to tickets?
I recently received my first ticket in about 20 years and then another one in a month. Both were ridiculous tickets and I believe it was given to raise more money for the city. One was for driving 26mph in a 25mph school zone at 10 pm (2 points), and the other one was given to me because I was "allegedly speeding" (I had just accellerated from a light up to 35-40mph in a 40mph zone) but since there was no radar or laser in the unmarked police car (he just felt like I was speeding), it was given as careless driving (2 points)! So I went to the court and got taken care of them (pleaded them down to no-point moving violations).
2 weeks ago, I leased a 2010 G37x and was looking around for another insurance company. Geico quoted me $921 for 6 months first, but after checking my DMV records they quoted me $2,235 for the same coverage since I was considered an "unsafe driver"!
I wonder what other stories are out there about tickets and increased insurance rates due to the tickets. I know that it is a fact that the insurance companies are waiting like vulchers to suck every hard-earned penny out of our pockets, but I am still a little pissed off.

Almost everybody get a speeding ticket sometime in their life. I've gotten a couple and my insurance never increased. I've known people who have gotten DUIs and their insurance never increased.
I'm in Illinois with Country Companies Insurance and it is less than $700 per YEAR.

insurance companies are scumbags. When I first started looking around, I went to state farm and was quoted $8,500 a year because I was 19.....enough to buy a decent new car every year -_-

Unfortunately, it’s quite routine for insurance companies to raise rates based on their insured’s driving records. I believe data on points earned are passed on to most insurance companies. As suggested, your best course of action is driving school or fighting a ticket in court.

I have 3 insurance points in my state (NC) and I still only pay around $104 a month with a $100 deductible and tons of coverage for uninsured motorists, etc. Also I am only 21 years old. You should consider switching your insurance. I have my other cars and my little brothers cars on my insurance, but that quote is stil insanely high. Good luck to you!
