Need help - I'm new to modding

Hi all,
I recently bought a G ! I wanted to get a G37S coupe but i have to move to different places because of my job and considering the fact that the weather conditions might not be favorable for my car to be a all-year fun machine and also considering needing more space for when I have to move again, I ended up buying a used black 2012 G37xS sedan. I have a few mods in mind i'd like to do on my car, but having a real hard time finding these parts online! I would greatly appreciate a how to or where I can get a hold on the following parts.

1. OEM sport coupe rear sway bar - I've been scouring ebay and other sites to find it and have only come across base coupe rsb. I thought about Hotchkis sway bars, but it a lot of post seem to believe in OEM sport coupe rsb to be a cost-efficient alternative.
2. The front grille ! My G came with chrome grill. It is hard to see in image searches, but it seems like grille has a chrome/ black chrome finish. I'd like suggestions on what would look better on the car - a black chrome grille or a gloss black finish. Adding the links below.
- ebay black chrome grille
- ebay gloss black grille

Also, here is the what i have done to the G so far:
- replaced the air filters (K&N) and cabin air filters
- changes the brake pads/ rotors
- cleaned our the rust/ painted brake calipers
- chrome delete on windows and the trunk lid
- Ceramic 40% tint all around
-OE style front bumper lip
- ordered Motordyne shockwave catback (unfortunately got backordered at this timedue to COVID )

Future upgrades in mind:
- 19" wheel (ESR sr07) and coilover (BC racing/ teins) upgrade (after motordyne install)
- FI rhfc
- Big brake kit (akebono)
- rear diffuser valence
- headlight upgrade to halos
- headers

If this is going to kinda be a daily driver or a show type of car and not used for track, don’t waste your money on coil overs, get some Eibach or Swift lowering springs and spacers. Coil overs on this car usually worsen the ride quality. If you’re going to get headers, get long headers and not HFC. If you get HFC, don’t get headers. If you get both, it’s actually proven that it losses HP on the dyno without a tune. My opinion on the grille is to get the black and chrome cuz it would look better on your car rather than all black. Other than that, your future mods are great and you have a really nice car, maybe add a grounding kit to that list. Happy modding:BOUNCE:

Thank you for the input on the grille and cats. Maybe I'll just stick to a rhfc :). Also, I've looked in the forum n outside and haven't yet found someone who paired the low hanging motordyne catback with springs on a sedan. Hence the idea for coilover where the height can be adjusted. Is there a way to get best of both worlds ? I dont want the car to feel like a boat, but I also don't want to compromise the ride quality too much either.

Yea that’s true, the motordyne catback does hang lower than a lot of others. With that, your best bet is some coil overs, cuz like you said you can adjust them and lowering springs may make the exhaust scrap if you get too low of ones. Or the other option is to find some lowering springs that barely lower your car, but it wouldn’t look as good. If you get coil overs, make sure you upgrade the rear sway bar like you said you were going to do, that’ll help the ride quality

Firstly, you made the better choice over a coupe, totally unbiased opinion lol.

If you're doing springs, with an AWD sedan, only go with swift. Eibach gives an uneven drop and worse ride quality. Tein is soggy and mushy compared to the other options if that makes sense. They're too soft and travel too much, some people bottom them out on track quite easily. If you're going for coilovers, BC is definitely a good way to go, but again, consider the swift upgrade over Tein.

For the grille, I tried many variants, and until your headlights are blacked out, a fully black grille just doesnt work. Try to keep the chrome border and black middle. If you plan on blacking the headlights out, that changes things. Most economical thing would be to just paint or wrap your existing one.

Great start, curious to see where you take this thing.

Thank you for that info hexotic!
I'm ordering BC racing coilovers in the next few days. I called up a few places and heard there's gonn be at least 4 weeks wait time on the part. Also, I bit the bullet and ordered the hotchkis sport rear sway last week. And ofc it ended up being backordered as well ! FML !!
And for the update, I switched out the volume/ ac knobs and installed a q50 shift knob n boot with red stitching. I'm currently working on the paint correction for the whole car and having a body shop fix and paint the bumper from the extensive rock chips and the one dent that keeps bothering me (the previous guy who owned it must've been driving it like a speedboat! ). But no matter what, none of the body/ wrap shops want to work on the chrome grille!
Here are some pictures!

Cool. I'm surprised to hear about the grille.
masking tape, 800 grit sandpaper, Scotch Brite pad and some black lacquer or acrylic enamel and you're good. Lasted me 4 years before finally making my current custom grille.

Congrats on the car brother,

Something I would save for and heavily invest in performance-wise is Stillen Gen 3 Intakes. It made such a big difference in so many areas in my G it was worth every single penny. Plus they are reasonably priced and they are so so undervalued. Best intake system I've had and I have tried 4 of the best and it takes the cake for me. Pair it with a Catback / delete system and you have a mean machine. That's my best advice for performance. I also have Coilover adjustable suspension on mine and I can edit the stiffness and sway with it as well. Those are some things I would look into for the long term. Car is coming along nicely for ya though buddy! Keep it up!

I don't mean to come off condescending or anything like that. I'm just really curious and want to add my 2 cents. Several companies did a lot of side by side testing comparing all the leading intakes. Stillen gen 3s produce low end numbers compared to other long tube intake systems. About on par with Takeda. There are better mid range designs out there like z1 and then the top tier intakes like admin tuning and then 3" intakes.

Personally, I look at power mods with a $/horsepower lens, and stillen is actually the lowest in that respect.

So I'm confused how you would get better results with the stillens. The exhaust setup must be making a big role in how they coexist. Did you tune after swapping the intakes every time? I'm just super curious, I'm a nerd and things like these bother me lol.

Didn't mean to detail the topic.

Hey dude, I would highly suggest you DO NOT get BC coilovers. I had KWs on my car and they were awesome. I had a bad mechanic attribute an issue to my coilovers (turned out to be wrong) so I replaced them with BCs. I ended up leaving the BCs on but they are so much crappier than the KWs. You are going to spend all this money for coils, camber kit, install etc. just to the extra $400-500 to get KWs. You likely won’t ever know how much worse your BCs are to KWs or how much better your KWs are than BCs b/ you’ll likely never get both, but take it from someone who has. The KWs were so much better I may buy a new set of them and replace these BCs on my car. I hate them so much.

Does KW make AWD coilovers now?
BC come in several variants, but they do get a clunky reputation. Another AWD option is Fortune Auto. They're a bit more expensive, but still worth it. Unfortunately KW still doesn't make coilovers that fit AWD models. You will find this a lot with many parts not fitting the AWD. Sway bars, coilovers, exhaust components.

Thank you !!! i appreciate your thoughts on this and I did look into intakes earlier, but found myself leaning toward the admintuned intakes. I do plan to get an uprev tune once I'm through with the major upgrades and I heard admintuned guy does remote tunes/ flashes on uprev. So i got the k&n filter swaps for now and called it a day. Especially with the delays i face cuz of COVID, I think i have ample time to go over options for intakes later again. :)

If only KW made coilovers for the damn awd models !! lol. I'm telling ya.. Finding the right mod parts for the awd sedan is a pain at times. I do walk away at times out of frustration. But somehow, I'm back at it even before i know it ! :dunno:

100% true !!! I'm thankful at least motordyne has their shockwave adjusted to fit awd sedans now. part3333
