On the market for G37
Hello,
New to this forum and on the market for G37. Coming out of a 2008 TSX, loved it, after a total loss I'm seriously considering a G37. I've liked what I read and something tells me there is a chance I might like this car better. Big questions are: Which generation, year and model. Not sure about generation but it seems 2008-2010 generally will cover a $10k bill. As far as model the Coupe is more attractive yet lower miles, maintenance records, garaged and 1 owner can make me change my mind any day even if Sedan. Hoping to hear from owners especially which generation and year may be better and any considerations to keep in mind. I've watched some videos and read a bit on G37 but nothing like a real owners opinion. Thanks. |
Definitely, Definitely test drive. I originally wanted a 10-13 Sedan S model and ended up "settling" for an 09 Coupe X model. I love it but there is a wide enough difference between models that its worth trying out each trim. I am not going to tell you the positives since that is posted all over this place. Its a great great car but here are some bullet points:

dont' buy one w/dash cracks! Be on the lookout for that!
And when yo DO buy one, keep a sunshade on it, and apply tons of 303 on the dash! The 10-13 doesn't have an aux input? Wonder why the change? At any rate, here's a solution: https://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...initi-g37.html |
Yes, i do remember that solution and thinking "I aint starting a phonecall everytime i want music". But others might be more patient then I.
Good call on dash cracking and sun shade. |
Thanks all for replies, they are helpful. Are there areas of maintenance in G37 that are noted for? Example I read a MT user write that the Rear gallery seal and rear timing cover need replacement. Any other maintenance tasks beyond brakes and oil changes these cars may need $ when odometer turns 80k miles and above?
Thanks. |
Welcome to the site, good replies above. If you can up your price point I'd consider a 2012+, these have the improved oil passage gasket. Prior years have an inferior gasket and if this fails it's a costly repair in the $2k range.
Good Luck w/ your search, keep us posted on what you find. |
I've got a 2011 G37S sedan with manual that I bought new. I love this car! Contrary to one opinion above, I really like the sport seats. Very comfortable and supportive when being aggressive in the curves. The big brakes that come on the S are well worth the cost of the S just by themselves. I'm just shy of 100K and I've had zero maintenance issues. Oil changes, filters, tires and brakes have been it. Mileage could be better, plus it needs premium, but I don't know of another car with 327 HP that does much better. Would I buy again? In a skinny minute!

Hey guys thanks for great observations/responses. I test drove this beauty on link below today and loved it! Coming from a 2008 TSX with a stiff ride this car felt great with the sports seats, acceleration and corner handling. Amazing what an extra 129hp will do! Only 2 things made me want to check it with a mechanic before handing $13.5K over. Unfortunately price point can't be higher for a 2012. In fact I was hoping to sweep a 2008-2012 for about 10k. This vehicle below is in Excellent 3% condition with new tires. The only part the owner has replaced aside from oil filter and pads was a MAF Sensor.
1. On braking over 40 mph I noticed slight pulsations on the steering wheel. Nothing over the top but enough for me to feel it. Will brake and rotors take care of this? Is it something else? At 54,000 miles (20k miles ago) both front and rear rotors where resurfaced and brake pads replaced. 2. High pitch wind noise over 80mph. Is the 2010 Sport Coupe version noted for this? https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing today and loved it. |
Found this posting here below with similar pulsating symptoms. Not sure there were ever any resolution. Anyone else experienced pulsating steering wheel?

This one here really points to rotors and pads being the culprit.

Brake Judder is common, a good re-bed cycling of the brake pads can often eliminate or seriously reduce the judder. You're basically using the pads to scrub the rotor of previous uneven pad deposits. This is much more common that rotors that have seen excessive heat and have excess run-out.
Looks like you sourced a nice S coupe, those extras w/ the S pkg are a nice find, the seats are something that some don't prefer, but are a nice setup for spirited drives. |
I get you and will try re-beding first, thanks. I ended up purchasing this car and wow what a ride. The previous owner had bought new tires in 2015 but the front tires probably need replacement so it may be a good time to check pads.
I also posted about wind noise above 80mph. Is this common in this model? Are the service manuals for 2010 coupe S available here? Also does this vehicle has a time chain? If so do you guys still adjust the tensiometer and change water pump when schedule comes? |
I have a white G37 2013 convertible for sale on Raleigh, NC Craigslist with Stillen exhaust. Love it but need something bigger.
