Third Infiniti, First G

Hey Howdy all:

Awesome forum, I already got a ton of good information from it. THANKS!

I've been wanting a G for a long time
.
My first Infiniti, which I still have, is a 1997 QX4... unstoppable! Got it New when they first came out.

My second Infiniti, is a 2007 FX35 also got it new. Fun truck... sitting in the driveway waiting for a replacement motor as I managed to kill it.
I still remember drooling over the G when I bought the FX as the family ride.

Now my daughter is old enough for her own vehicle, so we kept it in the family and just got her a '13 Juke Nismo. with only 5kmiles on it

And finally, I scored this '13 G37xS for myself. 19k miles, decent price, loaded with options including wood trim, back-lit sill plates, rear spoiler, 19" wheels and big-assed brakes.

I'm impressed the dealer hooked it up with a new set of Conti DWS-06 tires too... and then I promptly ordered a set of black Rockstar five spoke 20's wrapped with Hankook Ventus V12 EVO2 245/35ZR20
(Ordered from CarID...which I just discovered is sponsor/participant here? Heh! )

Here's to hoping the Contis and AWD will be enough for NY winters!

Future Mods on my checklist: Sport exhaust, Stillen G3 intake, plenum spacer (maybe), Smoke the 19"wheels a few shades, Black the grill and floss-off the name. Black the rear Fuji (I always thought the symbol represented the endless road perspective, not a mountain). Still debating on the model & trim letters. Also drop it an inch once I see how the new wheels line up.

Carbon fiber plate frames, and ditch the dealer sticker.

I have Weathertech front and trunk liners on the way.

The dealer put brand-spanking new rotors and pads on, so I feel guilty about replacing them with a drilled set... but I will anyway. And I'll paint the calipers red and put the vendor logo on them.

I want to add some red interior accent lighting, and a good DTRL kit, looking for ideas for both.

Oh, and I found a killer totally invisible hitch mod so I can rack my bikes...nothing more badass than slinging a 8" Downhill mountain bike on a hot sporty!(or my trail bike, or my road bike, or my dirt jumper...)

Anyway here's how I got it.

Welcome. Sounds like good plans but if you have the option cancel those boat anchor wheels! I'm not sure of the weight but I think its something like 35 pounds! Yikes. Your sporty new car will drive like an altima so if performance is something that matters to you look into it.

Thanks!
Quick posting question: I noticed the thread initially listed with the first picture beside it, now it has a triangular exclamation point instead of the picture. (In the thread listings)

How does that work?

Thanks for the heads up, I did a quick run on the numbers:

KMC Rockstar 20x8
32.6lbs each.

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo
245/35ZR20
Weight 26 lbs.

Vs. what I have now:

Stock Inf Sport 19x8.5
26.5lbs each

Continental Extreme Contact DWS06
245/45ZR19
25 lbs. each

Differential:
6 pounds more per larger wheel, plus 1 lb more per tire = +7lbs on each corner. (28lbs total)

As you said, the majority of the extra weigh is definitely in the wheels.

Just for comparison,
I did a quick google on Vossen. Somebody +1ed an Audi from 19" to 20" using Vossen CV5s and picked up 7.4lbs on each corner.

As far as I can tell I'd have to spend close to an extra Grand over what I paid to cut that weight differential...and he was already running a premium brand and gained even more weight than I will with the KMCs.
(although I don't know how much the CV5s cost)

I'll have to look to see much more weight I could save with a forged set at 2x the price... would it be more 2-3 lbs per corner?

Oh well, Maybe next year!

Update:

CARID knows their stuff!

My KMC Rockstar wheels and Hankook tires just arrived.

Packed like a boss and arrived on date quoted.
Fits perfectly. Plenty of clearance over my Akebono brakes
and the wheel sits nicely flush with the well.

Regarding the weight change:

KMC Rockstar 20" x8 wheel w/Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 245/35ZR20
54.2lbs wheel and tire

Stock Inf Sport 19x8.5 w/ Continental Extreme Contact DWS06
245/45ZR19
50.0lbs wheel and tire.

Differential 4.2lbs per corner.
+16.8 lbs total extra pound for moving up to 20" wheels and tires.

Not too shabby.

Ah but now I get to enjoy both!

The OEM wheels have my all-season tires for the winter.

all seasons are only good to 0 C. Once you hit snow and ice, they're no better than summer tires. I run all seasons all year, but swap to my oem wheels with winters for the snow months. Of course if you live somewhere south where winter is just rain, you're fine.

I like the wheels, except for the star cap. With a proper drop, some more dark elements like maybe black headlights, and once you have all 4 on, it should look mean.

Yeah, I think a little plasti dip over that star and those wheels would go well

Yeppers, I plan on PD'ing the star this weekend. Probably will do the grille as well.(If time permits)

I plan on smoke PDing the stock wheels so they are darker but not full black.

I've had AWD on an A4, QX4 and FX35 with all seasons and they've all done quite well in the NY snow. We'll see how this one does. If it's a real problem then I'll buy some proper winter tires but for now I just got the car and the Contis are brand spanking new so I'll stick with them till my wallet recovers a bit.

I'm sure true winters will be better but I'll try to let these new AS' wear down first.

The star cap is on my hit list.
I'd love to smoke the lights but I keep hearing about the tickets they draw. I'll think on that a bit.
Definitely plan on blacking the grille, dropping the badges and blacking the rear Fuji
Dropping is on my list. It looks pricy so it will be a while.

I plan on painting the calipers red soon too. Replacement Akebono logos on the way.
