So here I am looking for a new ride. I've set my sight pretty hard on a G37s Coupe. It's RWD, not *horrible* mpg rating. Sporty @ 300+HP N/A. Looks good. Test drove an 09 G37s A/T sedan and was *very* happy with the car.

I've been shopping my region hard for the past month. Problem is, I'm not liking what I'm seeing when it comes to mileage/price ratio. I can afford more, but I've set my cieling at $15k. Everything in that ballpark around here is 100k+. I can find almost nothing on the reliability and/or maintenance costs of these cars past 100k.

I just sold my e30 because it was a giant money pit. I really, really liked it... but I'm headed back to school and can't afford to spend time every week chasing gremlins or what-have-you.

Thats where you experienced G series folks can help me... I hope.

Should I keep looking for the right deal? Say $14-15k/60-80k miles?
Should I consider a higher mileage G?
Should I just raise my price ceiling?
Am I out of my damn mind?

Welcome to the site, looking for the S coupe is a good choice, a lot of features in the S package.
I think I'd raise your ceiling to around $18k, should open up a few more choices.
These are pretty reliable vehicles well over 100k, but starting out w/ the cleanest vehicle you can find is a good plan and obviously the least amount of miles is a plus. We've had two Gs, our first that I sold to a friend has over 100k now without any issues and our current 09 has 75k and no issues there either.

going to school and 6 year old 80k mile luxury sport coupe doesnt sound like a good mix. granted, G's are known to be pretty reliable, but parts and maintenance will be higher than your average car.

i'd say get a boring, but cheap & reliable Honda or Toyota, put your full attention into school, get a good job, then buy that newer low mileage G37/Q60/whatever to treat yourself.

G37S Coupe of any year with 60-80k miles for $15k will either be a salvage or a car with some type of serious issue. These cars have depreciated a lot, but not to that point.

Thanks for the input. As for the job, I've got a good one... They're paying for the school which is the only reason I'm going back. I'm 28 and have zero debt partially because I work on my own vehicles.
Just what kind of costs would be expected after 80k on these cars? Known issues? High priced replacement parts?

as far as higher costs, i was referring to insurance, synthetic oil, 91oct gas, big tires, and just generally more expensive parts over a Chevy/Ford/Toyota xxx.

i agree with Ryne - you probably won't find a decent one for ~ $15k. first one i drove was a 2013 G37x coupe w/32k miles for $22k ... and it was kinda rough - almost turned me off to a G.

I sold my g37 S Coupe lowered with 20in MRR wheels and clean title and etc for 15,250 but it did have 92k miles already. I say 18k should get you a tad bit lower mileage

You should raise your price point to 18k, what you would get for 15k is the bottom of the barrel. S package contains an amazing amount of things for an enthusiast for not very much money. These cars are overall very reliable, especially when compared to BMWs, I know plenty of examples of earlier G35s having 300k miles and more and still kicking. Some well known issues include csc on manual cars, rear differential bushing leaking and steering wheel\door plastic panels being scratched up, all of these are relatively easy to fix.

I'm headed back to the dealership today. The salesman says he can make me happy with the 09 I test drove after I told him my issues were color, mileage and price. We'll see.

It has K&N CAI installed, no codes and looks like it has the proper sensors wired up so I'm assuming it was done right.

Is $18k out the door too high?

Seems legit! 18k for 72k original miles and a 7 speed nice find! Test drive it and check the car fax/auto Check and you should be good

How do you figure maintenance is more costly? In terms of maintenance, the G is really nothing more than a glorified altima on a rwd chassis. Takes the standard 5 qts of oil, lots of interchangeable parts between various other nissan cars.

for 18k id hold out for a coupe S 6mt.. but thats just me..

I do love a manual gearbox. It was a sticking point for me until I considered the increased performance and MPG on the 7speed. That and I've heard rumor of slave cylinders being an issue on the 6mt. Also, the 'sport mode' or whatever that holds gears longer felt nice. And the ability to control my shift points with the paddle shifters gives me hope that I'll stop wishing for the third pedal.

Definitely right, getting a manual is nice trust me I had a 08 G37 S 6 speed man do I miss it noemi have a 7 speed sedan still fun but not as enjoyable since I love changing gear, couldn't get a hold of a manual sedan and just opted out for a journey witch I had a good deal on, but it's true the oem slave cylinder is pretty bad and buying a manual would be best if the clutch was replaced already because I went through my clutch going out and it was expensive to fix, other that that it was a great car and really fun! Mpg weren't the best I was averaging 15 to 16mpg city and now on my 7 speed auto I'm averaging 19mpg

Pass. By a low mileage FWD econobox and save your money for beer and college chicks.
